Can we please stop using a film’s box office as its measure of success?

This is HUGE. This dude is a YouTuber who wrote, directed, and starred in his film. It tripled its budget on its opening day. I caught it at one of the local cinemas here in town. Solid cosmic horror. We NEED more people making and sharing films like this. This is a slam dunk for indie cinema.

I finished another draft of my screenplay! What a rush. Is there any feeling like this? Now off to the producers for notes and on to the next draft.

Got to spend a day on set filming wolves yesterday and that was awesome. They’re really beautiful, wild animals and also basically the same as my dog. This industry is great.

Cinema is a human art that utilizes technology. 📽️ But we can't allow technology to overtake the humanity of filmmaking. Stories come from artists, so we need a system that's led by artists and is set up to support artists. Economics are vital to filmmaking, but the art should come first. Always.
