Just watched What's Up Doc (1972) which is on iPlayer at the moment. My fourth Peter Bogdanovich, after Paper Moon, The Last Picture Show, and Targets. All such different films, all extremely good. Never really kept up with who had which bag but I think it's fine. #filmsky 📽️🎬

Was out yesterday so only saw the goings-on of Pep's last game in retrospect. It's strange thinking he's gone. I expect we'll drop back a bit now. Guess I won't always feel like this but if we don't win anything again, it's fine. Until 2008 I never expected this to happen to begin with.

Re-watched Wake in Fright (1971) last night. It's very good, and looks incredible in 4K on the big screen - but approach with caution, particularly for a kangaroo sequence that's a tough watch. Also features a young Dorothy Burke off Neighbours playing a creepy hotel receptionist. #filmsky 📽️🎬

Last night I went to see The Christophers. Found it very so-so. Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel were both good but the script was a bit too knowing: very witty but rather inauthentic. Also, I didn't realise James Corden was going to be in it 🤢 A middling three stars from me. #filmsky 🎬📽️

Watched The Heiress (1949) last night, and it was very good. It was based on Washington Square by Henry James. Olivia de Havilland was brilliant and I really liked the ambiguity in Montgomery Clift's performance. It's streaming on Channel 4 in the UK for another week. #filmsky 📽️🎬

Watched The Fifth Element. Wanted to enjoy it as much as I probably did when I last saw it, at the cinema in 1997, but I struggled to get through it. My grandparents' house, which I've not set foot in for 25 years, is up for sale. Looking at photographs of it on Rightmove has stopped my afternoon in its tracks. I wish I could go in again and have a look around, but I'd need to be able to prove I can borrow £425k in order to do it 😩

Criterion releasing K Pop Demon Hunters is a net benefit for everyone - those who like the movie will get a really good home release of it, those who don’t care about the movie will benefit from Criterion having a certified money maker that they can use to help fund more obscure/niche releases

Listening to the diaries of Helen Garner at the moment and really enjoying it. Her vignettes about life have an unflinching honesty and vulnerability that's really arresting. Then in an entry I heard today she mentions going into a bookshop in Sydney that my uncle's partner owns! Gosh. #booksky 📚
