Latest report on govt use of BSL is testament to the progress made since 2022, with new departmental plans to continue growing awareness. Clearly much more to do to embed needs of deaf signers at the heart of govt, which I will keep pushing for as chair of the BSL APPG.

For people with learning disabilities or autism, a locked mental health ward can be a living hell. Under the 1983 Mental Health Act, these conditions alone can be used to justify detention. I strongly welcome the governmentās new Mental Health Bill, which will help end this shameful practise.
