Democrats are constantly getting in our own danged way.

I think one of the hardest things about this year is the normalization of incompetence, corruption, and chaos. In any other year under any other administration, any one of the stories about this president would be a fucking scandal, occupy the news cycle for days, and be utterly disqualifying.

Since January, millions are unemployed, prices have skyrocketed while families go hungry, fundamental rights are under assault (particularly for marginalized folks), cities are under siege, corruption is rampant, federal services are gone, and the president is busy renovating the White House.

In other words, big biz welcomes cooked govt stats bc they have equally good or alt sources of “data.” I think he’s right that Big Biz has access to lots of data. But govt stats were impt for creating information - it’s the authority behind meaning making, as much as the public access to it.

He’s also I think incorrect in assuming that Big Biz needs “good” data. That’s a) assuming a level of rationality in corporations and markets that the evidence is, to be kind, howlingly absent for; and b) assuming rationality / good data is tightly linked to profit. It isn’t. But power is.
