Feeling a bit better today. I have a graphic design contract still ongoing that I must answer to, but luckily it’s literally with a mental health organization. They’ve been great. Pick your clients carefully, my disabled friends.

Psychosis is exhausting. My brain hurts. Medication kicks in and there’s like a knowledge that I’m in psychosis, but it’s detached. I jump at noises. I have bad thoughts. Intrusive ones. But good things are still happening. I am not a collection of orders from god. I am a flawed human with agency.

I know that I use schizophrenia to mine content for stuff to talk about during my videos (and because it truly seems to help people open up about mental illness) but it’s no joke. The relatability helps me sell paintings, but man. It really hits home that I will be sick for the rest of my life.

I reorganized my shop. Art sales are a tricky thing — some months I feel like I’ll never have to work a joe job, other months I’m eating cans of beans from my pantry. I have other people I’m responsible for now, though. A girlfriend, a kid. And I’m trying to make this art thing work.

One of the most beautiful things about chronological timelines is that you can build a community, and then just ENGAGE WITH THAT COMMUNITY. You don’t have to constantly be chasing new followers in order to be seen. But both models have some value. TikTok can be okay for finding new audiences.

My biggest oil painting to date: increasing sizes slowly. 11x14 oil on canvas, titled “Procession.” My family went to High Head trail in Prospect #novascotia last weekend to lay my grandmother to rest, and I tried to capture one of the moments on the trail. Heavy #impasto technique. #art

Fixing the light on an oil painting. I’m new to this! It’s new to me! Oils are cool though. Im digging it. This is a painting of Burchell’s Wharf, on the Peggy’s Cove Road in Halifax Regional Municipality.

What are we thinking? I think I like it. Oils are reaaaaally different from gouache but there’s something meditative about getting lost in every tiny brushstroke. I also feel INSANE about how much I love how warm the light looks. She glows ✨ I’ll link my process video below. #art #novascotia
