Doom posting a bit. The internet feels like a very distracted place. Excessively so- more than ever before. I've been finding it increasingly difficult to talk in an earnest way about interests and thoughts pretty much anywhere online

The old DQVI patch had two notorious bugs- backing out of the Info > All and Equip menus would softlock the game. Fan translation had some infinite looping/preemptive fail-safes. Took awhile to understand, but it's solved by a few lines of code Looks good now, needs some stress testing

I made a page for the translation of Dragon Quest VI SFC to a cleaner, less buggy English/SNES version. The effort is going well and it's been an interesting exercise to figure it all out. More to come: cleartonic.net/dq6/

With some furious hacking I was able to pull out all of the text from NoPrgress' ancient patch, decode/convert/re-encode all of the text data with the new font widths, which generates very fast too. With this plus the ability to rewrite text anywhere, the pastabilities are endless

Joined the massive online Champions tournament with about 6,000 entrants, I made it to day 2 and went 9-3. Game's hard, but it was a good time

Played a longtime RPG backlog game, Lost Odyssey. It's got some real cool parts, including awesome cutscene work, characters & early story points, but I didn't like the last chunk of the game very much and I felt that it fell victim to classic uninspiring JRPG endgame tropes. Glad I played though

Hit my goal time in DW4, the last version of DQ4 for me to learn. Now I've got a time in each main version, which are NES, PSX, and NDS. DQ4- pretty good game!

I've been rereading Edith Hamilton's Mythology and it's very interesting to revisit where so much game story and lore comes from. This time I'm especially seeing the La Mulana 1 & 2 inspirations

Last week I finished the Tellius draft (Fire Emblem 9 & 10) with mpg/jersey/rename/casusby. Very fun way to play Fire Emblem, and the Tellius games let you do a lot of cool stuff flexibly. FE10 without battle save was completely reasonable. Looking forward to the next one sometime. Fiona my queen:

Off to RPG Limit Break today. My run for Dragon Warrior Monsters is Friday afternoon. It's this game's first major marathon debut in the west, and the highest chance of failure for any run I've done due to the nature of the game, but I'm as prepared as I can be & it'll be a good time. ctMeat

My Rockman 8 PB was 50:58 from March 2018. Last month in December I finally updated it to 50:55. Today I got a 50:51. My play has gotten better and I've developed some new tech, but I still need the boss luck to pan out overall. It's been tough, but fun to revisit
