Yesterday we looked at the book "How to catch a star" by Oliver Jeffers for a prediction and visualisation task. We didn't get to look at the cover, and only heard the first 2 pages of the book and then had to make a prediction about how the boy caught a star! ⭐⭐

Today we looked at the properties of 2D shapes. We talked about how many sides and corners shapes have and about where we see different shapes in every day life! 🔵🟩🔺🛑

Today we looked at maths through stories, using the book "Pezzittino" by Leo Lionni. We explored how small pieces can make something amazing. We used cubes, coloured squares, and Lego to build our own characters and models, just like Pezzettino discovering where he belongs!

Today we read more of our book "The Explorer" and discussed what important items we would need if we were an explorer! We drew what we would need and then wrote a few sentences about why we would need these items! 🌳🎒🚶🧢🔦⛺🧭🗺️

Last week was @mathsweek.scot last week and we completed many challenges to support our learning. We looked at adding, numbers greater than and less than, finding the missing number in an adding some and did lots of active learning.

We created some autumn inspired art yesterday afternoon. We talked about what colours made us think of autumn and what happens to the trees in different seasons. We then used different techniques to create our beautiful autumnal trees! 🍁🍂

In outdoor learning we created our own dens in the woods, linking our criteria to our class novel "The Explorer", where our main characters have just discovered an abandoned den are making it their own! Brilliant ideas, teamwork and collaboration between classes! 👏🌳🌳

Today in IDL we were learning about deforestation. Earlier in the week we did some persuasive writing and learned some good persuasive words, and today we designed posters to try and persuade people to help stop deforestation! Ask us about the reasons the world needs rainforests! 🌍🌲🌳

Today in French we combined our previous learning about colours with our recent learning about numbers! We then got to play some fun interactive games to reinforce this learning. These links will be on our Teams page soon if you want to share your learning at home! 🇫🇷🔢🔴🟡🟢🔵🟣🟠

We have been trying out lots of different methods to help us learn our new spelling sounds. We love building our words with our magnet letters & showing our comprehension by using our new words in a sentence. Our weekly words are on Teams along with different methods for us to practise at home 😊

Well done to H, this week's Laurieston Legend who consistently displays the value of honesty. A brilliant role model to everyone 😊👏

In STEM we got creative and learned how to make the perfect aeroplane. We listened to all the step by step instructions carefully and all created a brilliant plane! Of course we had to test them out outside! 😊✈️

Continuing on from making maps earlier in the week, today we were look at grid references in maths. We linked it to our book, thinking about how the explorers could use a map to help them find important survival items, but only if they knew how to read it! 🗺️

We had a brilliant time visiting Meadowbank Library today. We got to stamp books, listen to some great stories and some of us who had our own library cards chose books to take home. Hopefully we'll get another visit organised later in the year! 📚

Today we listened to more of our class novel, "The Explorer" by Katherine Rundell. We discussed what important things an explorer would need if they were lost in a jungle and decided a map would really help, so we made our own! 🗺️ 🌎

Well done to our first Laurieston legend of this year! She always follows all the school values, but is an especially kind and caring pupil with a nurturing nature who definitely deserves this week's recognition. Well done, Z! 😊

In outdoor learning this week we were looking for different types of bugs, and then we built them hotels! We all worked well in teams, sourcing the resources we needed and then enjoyed some play in the trees!

Today we met Valerie the cow who came to visit us with @fvrhet.bsky.social as part of their Moo Maths programme. We 'milked' the cow and managed to measure out 750ml! We also learnt that cows have 4 stomachs and all they need is grass to produce milk!

We had another day of recapping our knowledge of place value using number cards, digital games and concrete materials. With each number, we make sure we know the value of each digit. 🔢

In outdoor learning yesterday we were looking for tracks and trails from wildlife! We saw nests and burrows, found feathers and slug trails and then had fun climbing trees! 🌳

This week we were looking at writing sentences and remembering to use our 'always toolkit'. We started an adventure story and described our explorer using adjectives. Some confident individuals were happy to read their stories back to the class! ⭐

A box of books arrived from @lrsfalkirk.bsky.social and it contained a huge variety of fiction and non fiction, with something that appealed to everyone! We have selected a book which we can bring home for reading for pleasure. Can you tell your adult about the book you selected? 📚

Today we were looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, as well as revisiting what we learned about place value last week. We worked with a partner to compete tasks at stations to show we understood our learning.

For our last activity linked to our book "The Day the Crayons Quit" we did some colour experiments for STEM learning! Using skittles and water, we watched as the colours swirled and mixed making out own skittle rainbow! 🌈

We had another exciting adventure to the Glen today for outdoor learning with @lauriestonp4-3.bsky.social and @lauriestonp4.bsky.social. Using natural resources we created our own crayon characters using items of that colour! 🖍️🌳

Today we were looking at place value and partitioning numbers. We worked in pairs using concrete materials to display our numbers and made sure we could separate our numbers into either tens and ones, or hundreds tens and ones 🔢

**OUTDOOR LEARNING REMINDER ** We have outdoor learning tomorrow afternoon, so just a wee reminder to bring appropriate clothing which includes a waterproof jacket with a hood, and wellies if possible. 🥾🧥🌳

Today in writing we created our own version of "The Day the Crayons Quit" and put our sequence of events in the correct order. Everyone remembered what we needed to create a proper sentence and we tried very hard to remember capital letters, full stops and fingers spaces! 📝

Today we tried a little bit of drama! 🎭 We took turns to hot seat and take on the role of one of the crayons from "The Day the Crayons Quit". We had to guess which crayon they were by their acting and how they answered the questions. Very impressed with some of our acting skills!! ⭐⭐

Today we discussed different emotions and different words for these emotions, and we linked it to the book 'The Colour Monster'. We are creating our own daily emotional check in chart and our own colour monster icons. Check back later in the week to see our finished work! 🔴🟡🟢⚫🔵

Today we visited Westquarter Glen for our outdoor learning lesson with @lauriestonp4-3.bsky.social and @lauriestonp4.bsky.social. We had lots of fun climbing trees, finding bugs, building dens and using our imaginations 😊🌳🌱

Today we did our first piece of writing in P3! We used “The day the crayons quit” and looked at character descriptions, writing a letter to the owner of the crayons describing our feelings and explaining why we felt that way. Well done primary 3, absolutely super work! ⭐️⭐️

Today we continued our book study on "The day the Crayons quit" by creating our own crayons for our classroom display. We discussed how each colour was feeling in the book and why they were feeling that way.

Today in literacy we looked at revising some spelling sounds we have previously learned, practised our alphabet and handwriting, and some started to create imaginative stories with drawings in our free writing jotters. A busy Monday in P3!

Today we visited the school library and found books we like to read for enjoyment 📚😊

We have had a brilliant first few days in Primary 3. Can’t wait get back to exploring and learning next week!
