Found this bit of pottery on the beach near my house yesterday. Turns out it's from a ~120 year old piece of kitchenware.

The layers in this exposed bank are varves - deposited annually at the bottom of a lake bed. In this case, the lake in question existed ~12,000 years ago and was dammed by a glacier. The two larger stones in the image are drop stones, which fell from a melting iceberg at the lake surface. 🧊
