Sometimes my favorite album of hers

My mom, a lifelong pediatric nurse, informed a 10 year old about what vaccines he was due for. His mother, in the room, said “oh I don’t know, do you want that one, honey?” Meanwhile their office has been flooded with calls about Tylenol’s safety and it’s a tremendous time and energy suck.

I hate when people talk like this but I don’t care. Neko Case has an album out today for the first time in 7 years and she is a bonafide national treasure.

The narrative here will inevitably go Latifah’s great and all but 3 Feet is “a classic.” Yet I can’t escape the FACT that much surrounding both albums is very similar (debuts, NYC, production) and QL is bolder, brasher, more subversive, but the story - and vote - will be so hopelessly one-sided

I appreciate what Nick of Time did for Bonnie Raitt but I can’t view it much more than a competent veteran artist release. The Ministry album is messy and confused (not derogatory!) in the spirit of change and progress and I’ll usually always reward that over anything else, and I am here

My grandma passed 19 years ago. She had debilitating arthritis so didn’t get around or out often without assistance. She had all the premium cable movie channels and watched movies all the time. She loved Robert Redford and his passing is a reminder and passing on of a detail in my memory of her.

I had a 1989 focus group w/my 8 &10 yr olds this morning: “Downtown Lights” - “from the 60s? Sounds old because it’s slow & kinda boring” “The Tower” - “definitely recent because it’s loud rock” “Down In It” - “recent because it sounds computer like” AND “70s, it sounds like old sound effects”

It’s too long and flags over the second half, but it also has some great songs early on and doesn’t suck like Louder Than Love, so I voted for New York
