We're happy to say that the Portland City Council voted 11-0 to deny both appeals to the Lloyd Center master plan today, with no modifications to the conditions on the plan. Please help us say thank you by sending an email to all the councilors who voted yes on jobs, transit, and housing today:

The only question in front of City Council today is “was the Design Commission correct that the Lloyd Center master plan meets the applicable design guidelines?” I’ll be disappointed if the council doesn’t vote 11-0 that it was. Every other talking point is distraction.

The Lloyd Center redevelopment represents a great opportunity to bring life to the neighborhood and meet Portland's housing, transit, and climate goals. To abandon a vision of thousands of homes in a mixed use, transit rich district in favor of a soon to be vacant site would be a profound mistake.

We like to say that cheap rents at the Lloyd Center happened because of the redevelopment, not in spite of it. Without having to worry about long term sustainability, the owners could charge rents that people were actually able to pay

I’m deeply sympathetic to folks with an emotional connection the Lloyd Center who don’t want to see it torn down. But it’s fate is sealed at this point, and any delay in moving on is just slowing Portland from building a ton more housing and giving this neighborhood some new life

Ha, kudos to the creator of this Don't Save Lloyd account. 👏 👏 👏 Anyone working to save Lloyd Center mall like it's some Midcentury Modern gem needs their head examined. A glamorous TOD project on that site will do more for that historic (lowercase H) district than a mall & sprawling car parking.
