Another way privilege PMO is when ⚪️ folks say, “I don’t read the news, so didn’t know he said/did that”. So you put the machinery of ⚪️ supremacy in motion, then walked away without so much as a glance back to see who & how it hurt when you left.

I appreciate that so many people are outraged about Trump’s video of the Obamas depicted as monkeys. But it’s a slap in the face everytime I see it shared. It must be nice to just logon to the internet without having your humanity & dignity attacked at any given point in time.

I find that many folks who believe they’re ⚪️ progressive Christians are actually just the moderates King spoke of. The giveaway is that they tout 🟤 church tradition but eschew platforming 🟤 progressive Christians for fear that we’re too woke.

By watching these atrocities & failing to act, ⚪️ Christianity is doing the same thing now that it did in response to slavery, Jim Crow, the fight for women’s suffrage and queer for equality: enabling. Facilitating. And that’s true now for the same reason it was then: this is what they want.

A jury acquitted one of the officers that did nothing to prevent the Uvalde shooting. I was worried about this criminal verdict because in *civil* law, there’s cases establishing officers owe no duty to protect. 1/2

Anyway. In the Bible, God is constantly reminding folks that WE are meant to be the temple where God dwells, so God is far less concerned with a building where services happen & far more concerned with us rightly representing God’s image well among the nations.

I have to believe that if I was a pastor & a crowd of people entered a service, protesting the fact one of our leaders was kidnapping, harming, or murdering marginalized communities on a regular basis, that my response would be THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO MY ATTENTION.

Those who play no active role in our liberation, or set to work against it, don’t get to dictate how we protest.

Most pastors won’t discuss the real King for the same reason most politicians won’t discuss the real Jesus.

I think my ⚪️ colleagues forget the purpose of protesting during the Civil Rights movement was to disrupt a system to the point of failure OR get arrested. It wasn’t a networking weekend event. It created grounds for legal battles or boycotted businesses. I guess what I’m saying is do more.

In the ancient world, women had to face the prospect of death when they were pregnant and giving birth. And even if they successfully delivered a child, it was very likely that child would die in infancy or childhood. We need to keep that in mind when reading maternal metaphors in scripture.
