We have a team from the Animal Systematics Research Unit (ASRU) at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand visiting to look through and utilize Senckenberg's extensive mollusc collection!

SOSA co-founder and ocean explorer, Dr. Torben Riehl presented at the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur Mainz (Academy of Sciences and Literature). He emphasized current marine biodiversity challenges and shared the SOSA project as a solution to discovering and protecting ocean species.

Last week, our team focused on accelerating the discovery and describing of new marine invertebrate species, met for a strategic workshop with advisors. The group set ambitious goals for the coming year – just the kind we need if we want to describe more ocean species before they become extinct!

Last week, SOSA Marine Council Member and Senckenberg Head of Marine Zoology, Prof. Dr. Angelika Brandt, attended the 2024 Ocean Decade conference where participants came together to celebrate achievements and set joint priorities for our oceans.

Yesterday, we shared our SOSA Discovery lab with students from the Senckenberg School who are training to be technicians. They got hands-on experience sorting material with a microscope and imaging samples with the SEM!

SOSA Project Manager, Ruth Wasmund, attended a project management workshop from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. She is learning the basics of project management such as project plans, controlling, and the different roles in a project!
