Back in the day when I wrote for magazines, the Jet Li cover shoot for Men's Health had a table and rack of weapons he could play with during the shoot. I like to think there was a similar selection of gardening and woodworking tools at this shoot.

Year's almost over and this still ranks as my favorite read of 2025.

I always liked McLuhan's quote: “One of the big marks of the loss of identity is nostalgia." When you're not quite sure where you are, who you are, or what the point of your existence is, it's easy to bathe in the previous. Because you were awesome back then.

To me, ego is best used as an invisible engine driving you that no one should see. That said... I have made a living from writing now for 30+ years. It was never easy, never lucrative, sometimes brutal, and always risky. It was the only thing I ever said I wanted to do in life. And I did it.
