As with all the maps in this series, we note the devastation war brought & the homelessness bombing caused, as well as the rebirth of the area in our map introduction. Upon reflection, most of our maps could be said to be about how places change & evolve over time, and why that change took place.

As noted in our sampled ‘reference’ image, bombing of these towns and cities were devastating and relentless, as well as meticulously recorded by the allies where possible.

#D-Day 1944. The mapping for D-Day was an epic feat of cartography. In wartime & in utmost secrecy, a mix of locals, allied pilots & resistance members gathered huge amounts of data, creating vital invasion maps. On reflection they are probably some of our most dangerous maps. #WW2 #WWII
