#FantasyIndiesJune day 17: How would your characters do on a road trip? They basically already are! They're travelling through the forest in a faulty wagon. They get on each other's nerves a lot, have a lot of accidental bonding moments, and make plans to take down the monsters trying to eat them.

I owe this book a lot. It started as a short story in an anthology created with other #writingcommunity authors when I was new to the scene. I later gave it a second life as an expanded standalone. Without it and the opportunities and connections it gave me, I probably wouldn't still be writing!

#FantasyIndiesJune day 11: MC's favorite childhood memory Watching a blacksmith work and becoming fascinated with the metalwork, and the surly-looking man ending up having a heart of gold and teaching Pravic the basics of the craft. It sparked Pravic's lifelong love to tinker.

I didn't write today, and surprise surprise, I suddenly find myself in one of those "I suck at writing and will never create anything worth reading" moods. Funny how that works!

#FantasyIndiesJune day 10: Would your characters stop to ask for directions? Pravic likely would not. He would enjoy the process of finding his own way. Viren would. She's practical and doesn't have pride. Avisa would... *order* people to tell her the way, rather than *ask*

I "won" my first ever run of Slay the Spire II! (scripted death at the end, curse ye meta progression). This happened in STS I, also. I beat my first 2 runs, one each with Ironclad and Silent, before getting utterly ruined as Defect for hours straight. I'll enjoy my 100% winrate while it lasts 💅

#FantasyIndiesJune day 9: WIP tagline Every 57 years a comet appears. Evil Magic Family uses its power to revive the founder of their bloodline, who tries to continue his Magic Eugenics project. It's MC's family's job to kill him each time.

Comet of Satyros update: Almost entirely rewrote the last chapter. MUCH better now and segues much better into a part I've been struggling structuring. I believe I've finally got a pretty good route to the next act This book will probably end up the longest thing I've finished (assuming I do finish)

#FantasyIndiesJune day 5: What D&D character would MC make? Pravic would go for barbarian or fighter. He's physically lacking compared to his peers, so being able to turn his brain off and just use his muscles to absolutely mess things up for once would be a welcome change

The Comet of Satyros is proceeding well. I re-read my existing draft and added 4 or 5 pages. My last couple attempts, I got bogged down editing and gave up before actually adding new stuff, so this is very good to see. And it came much easier than I was expecting.

Somehow didn't notice Docs has been autocorrecting one of my character's dialogue. Her NUMEROUS gerunds and participles have been robbed of their their delightfully rugged country accent. All those ins are now ings and Editing-Me is gonna have a heck of a time executing the gs.

#FantasyIndiesJune day 4: Does MC prefer indoors or outdoors? Definitely outdoors. He likes to explore, likes to survive with the gear he brings out with him. Plus, being indoors probably means being home and around his family. He hates them, and they hate him.

#FantasyIndiesJune day 3: Advice for writer's block I have 2. The first is the always true but often unhelpful "just do it" which is closely related to the second: allow your early drafts to be bad if you hit a wall trying to make them good. Really bad, if necessary. You can't edit a blank page.

#FantasyIndiesJune day 2: MC's sense of humor Sort of sardonic/bitter and ironic. He's not a mean person, but he has 🌟TRAUMA🌟and is stuck inside circumstances he is NOT a fan of. That sort of humor comes naturally. It doesn't help his travelling companion is a smug wise-cracker.

I believe literally the only thing left for this book pre-release is getting the cover made. This is by far the fastest the process of drafting has ever gone, and it's a weird feeling. Normally it takes me years to get to this point. But now I'm here after 4 months.

As monotonous as countless re-reads are, they're so important. I just found a (admittedly very easy to fix) plot hole in a manuscript I thought finalized. Two beta readers and a dozen reads from me, and it slipped right on by until today where I read it and went "Wait a minute..."

#FantasyIndiesMaytober day 8: Free Friday I've been having somewhat of an identity crisis regarding my writing lately. I have so many stories I've been on and off with for years that I'm beginning to think I'll never finish, and I don't know which ones I SHOULD be focusing on .../

The Labyrinth is done! (aside from final grammar/spelling checks) This was ~2,400 words before revisions, lol. The core of the story was there, but I was able to draw much more of it out. I think the characters and themes have enough bite to them now to make a satisfying story.

Current writing goals: Finish The Town that Banished Death and get working on the cover Fine tune The Labyrinth (a horror-ish short story) and find places to submit it Re-write Born Again (another horror short) because it has really strong themes but bleh writing, and ditto
