Legislators and Jersey farmers recently came together to share ideas on how to make our food system more resilient - from expanding school purchasing programs to ensuring stable markets for Jersey produce, laying the groundwork for a stronger, more sustainable food future.

Attainable housing is the foundation of a thriving workforce. With Bill A3128 and the State Tax Credit Subsidy Program, Assembly Democrats and NJHMFA are paving the way for $500 million in private investment to close financing gaps and build new workforce housing across New Jersey.

The Local Food for Schools Program & Local Food Purchase Assistance Program help our farmers & kids. The effort, a partnership between America’s Grow-a-Row, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Cooperative (MARC) and all five Feeding America New Jersey food banks, ensures free, NJ-grown fruits and vegetables reach every corner of the state, where one in nine residents faces food insecurity.

I recently had the privilege of being a part of the Garden State Conference on Food Security, a perfect ending to Hunger Action Month and a great chance to highlight our progress. Fighting hunger is a priority in New Jersey, and together we will be the state that ends it for all.

I was proud to join America's Grow-a-Row, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Cooperative, and our five Feeding America New Jersey food banks yesterday to announce a partnership that will keep more than 2.3 million pounds of fresh, Jersey-grown produce right here at home!

This past weekend, volunteers joined @speakercoughlin.bsky.social & Assembly members at Giamarese Farm & Orchards during Gleaning Week to harvest fresh produce for NJ families. #Gleaning is simple but powerful; it’s about making sure no good food goes to waste & that it goes to neighbors in need.

“NHCAC is one of the most important community institutions we have in Hudson County.” For decades, the North Hudson Community Action Corporation has broken down barriers to care. State funding helps expand pharmacy services, dental care & other essential services ensuring that no one is turned away.

At the Disabled Combat Veterans Youth Program’s Food Pantry, we saw what community looks like: neighbors ensuring no one goes without. With state funding, @speakercoughlin.bsky.social & Asw. Haider underscored the importance of supporting local pantries, serving as lifelines for residents in need.

It’s Hunger Action Month, and I’ve been traveling the state meeting food bank staff and volunteers leading the fight against hunger. Because of their efforts, families find hope, children can focus on learning, and seniors get to live with dignity. My deepest thanks to you all.

Last year we visited REPLENISH to announce funding for a new walk-in fridge and freezer, and recently we had the honor of coming back to see it complete! That means more perishable foods kept fresh, more healthy meals on the table, and more families served!

Big win for housing in NJ! Today, @govmurphy.bsky.social signed my bill, A3128, into law. The bill helps create more housing for middle-income workers. Because teachers, police officers and caregivers should be able to afford live in a home in the communities where they work.
