It's that time of year again! Bowl for Hunger, my annual fundraiser to support the local food pantries in my district is just 2 days away!

In my time as Speaker, and before, I’ve traveled our state meeting with workers, labor leaders, advocates, and, of course, families, often hearing the same concerns.

Job-protected family leave is officially in effect starting today! For years, our focus has been on making sure workers can take time away from the job to care for a sick parent or child without the fear that their job may not be there when they get back.

In the Legislature, we know that the housing shortage has been years in the making, and that’s why we haven’t stopped finding ways to build more homes and lower costs for everyone.

I’ve been fighting for working families throughout my time as Speaker, which is why I’m thrilled that starting on Friday, NJ will expand job-protected family leave to nearly 400,000 additional workers—including many newer and part-time employees who were previously locked out of these protections.

Good news! Great to see that Senior Freeze checks will begin being issued! Eligible applicants that applied for property tax relief by May 1, 2026, can expect to see their checks soon! Happy to see more New Jerseyans with the dignity that comes with being able to stay in their home!

I’m proud to see Governor Sherrill sign the Power NJ Act into law today, making sure our state can procure the nuclear energy we need to meet the demands of tomorrow. Here in New Jersey, we’re not going to slow down, and we’re making sure we have the supply we need to power our economy forward.

As we continue to celebrate America 250, New Jersey’s place in that story continues to be at the heart of it, and there’s no better way to appreciate that than walking the grounds at Princeton Battlefield.

In our most recent Voting Session I was proud to see both houses of the Legislature advance my bill that will help protect our residents’ eligibility for SNAP and NJ FamilyCare benefits after new federal requirements were put in place.

Independence Day might be behind us, but our celebration of America 250 lasts all year! As a history buff myself, I’m thinking back to my visit to Monmouth Battlefield – when we kicked off the start of our America 250 celebration. Definitely worth the stop if you’re passing by!

Always good to see a bill take flight✈️ Last year, I sponsored a bill to help build New Jersey’s pipeline of air traffic controllers and aviation professionals amid nationwide shortages—and now, $3.5 million in funding is going out to expand our state’s aviation programs.

The Assembly is hard at work making energy more affordable for New Jersey families, and today I was grateful to join Governor Sherrill as she signed three important pieces of that work into law.

On America’s 250th Independence Day, I’m remembering all of the brave signers of the Declaration of Independence who, in penning their names, affirmed that liberty was worth fighting for.

With the month of June coming to an end we said goodbye to a remarkable public servant as Bernie Flynn retired as the CEO of Mercer Street Friends. I’ve been fortunate to count on his advice over the years, and it’s a privilege to look back at all of the great progress.

From idea to law🍎 I’m proud to see my bill signed by Governor Sherrill, making it easier for NJ families to access the school meals programs their children rely on. Here in New Jersey, we know that food insecurity is hard enough, and we’re committed to making sure finding help doesn’t have to be.

For many families, a school meal can make all the difference. Legislation (A3882) sponsored by @speakercoughlin.bsky.social was signed into law today to require public schools to prominently post links to school meal applications and informational resources online.

Today, I was proud to join Governor Sherrill as she signed A3882 into law, a bill I sponsored to make it easier for families to access school meals programs here in New Jersey.

Nice story on NJ Monitor on my bill, A3881, which would give school districts earlier estimates of the state aid they can expect to receive and parents and taxpayers better insight into how school funding calculations are made.

Spent part of my day in front of the camera, but here’s what it looks like behind it! It was great to be in Woodbridge filming a PSA with the Office of the Food Security Advocate about the school meals programs and the work we’re doing to make sure more students can access the support they deserve.

Proud to see the Assembly Education Committee advance my bill to give school districts earlier notice on preliminary State aid figures. By providing notice in December, boards of education and administrators would have more time and information to develop a budget and plan for the future.

At a time when it can feel like there is more that divides us than brings us together, the American flag reminds us that we are all part of the same story. On Flag Day, we honor those values that bring us together and the generations of Americans whose belief in a better tomorrow kept it flying.

Here in New Jersey we don’t play games with whether families can put food on the table, and that’s why I applaud this recent decision to halt the restrictions that threatened access to programs as vital as SNAP, WIC, and of course the school meals programs.

Disappointed to see that inflation in our country has climbed to its highest level since 2023, another unfortunate setback we simply didn’t need.
