With the fall colors out and the semester starting next week, I finally got around to visit my colleague's weather stations at the Castle Mountain Resort this week and chat about future work we can do about mountain hydrology in the region.

Setting up a new instruments in the Yukon with a colleague's lab -> walking in deep wet moss, eating wild blueberries and trying to measure streamflow and no eat bugs while asking loudly: Is there permafrost here? And there? And for how long? And what if there's a fire? And how much snow? It's fun.

I signed my contract for U. Lethbridge in Dec. 2023. This was coming for a while... But I am still so freaking excited (and fully embracing this pocket of joy amongst the burning fires of the world). Special shout-out to my 2011 undergrad self who was so nervous to go knock on a prof's door.

I attended a day of presentations and discussions about snow monitoring with researchers from U. Calgary, U. Lethbridge and Alberta gov. last week. The goal: meet future colleagues, get the science juices flowing and help me plan my next steps. And of course, test bringing a baby to meetings!

Have you tried to measure streambed recharge/groundwater exfil - to get a number on if a stream section is gaining or losing? Any tips/resources to share? I'd love to chat.

We were on Peyto on Monday to do weather station maintenance.... It's shocking to see the collapse of the toe, the proglacial lake expansion, the utter lack of snow up high, and the warm wind over the ice... I know all this from the data, but experiencing it is still shocking.

Sadly impressive to go into the mountains late June and find them looking very close to last year's mid August snowpack (with current snowpack on the glacier quite thin). This will be an interesting year for the glaciers.... June 26, 2023 vs August 16, 2022 at Asulkan pass

The ups and downs of the last 48hrs in the Bow Valley : lots of rain bringing streamflow almost to average ranges, fresh snow on the peaks... But the smoke is back.

At my undergrad convocation, I saw the PhDs with their fancy hats and thought: I want that. Almost a decade later, and after many science adventures, I got to wear the velvet gown and hat that symbolize getting a PhD. It feels pretty special 🎓
