My video about how LLMs are not search engines has led to many, MANY comments telling me that I should be using Perplexity. Some insisting that Perplexity does not hallucinate. Out of a list of 26 papers it just provided me (in "Research" mode) 4 were real. FOUR. 85% hallucination rate.

Instead of regurgitating the bromide that LLMs are just "autocomplete on steroids" (even by people who know better), maybe we can actually engage in some public education. The problem with genAI is better expressed through a classic computer science concept, known as SYMBOL GROUNDING. 🧵

The new My Robot Teacher podcast keeps surprising me and making me laugh. I loved it at the end of the first show when they played ChatGPT roasting them. Also when guest Ben Glaser was bored in the Waymo and they used it to show how dangerously quickly we habituate. @myrobotteacher.bsky.social

AIPedagogy.org from Harvard's metaLAB was already the best-designed introduction to AI for educators I knew of. I return to it again and again for creative, critical assignment ideas. Now it's even more user friendly and offers a space to compare chatbots and change their settings.

Use the tools available. See what they are capable of. Have an open mind. Be critical and rigorous and assume nothing. Do what we’ve always done. But also don’t. Adapt. Practically speaking this resource is quite good: aipedagogy.org
