Chaps! Do yourself a favour and get a blood test done to have your PSA levels checked. I did last month and my elevated levels triggered off a scan, biopsy and prostate cancer diagnosis. The good news is that is a tiny amount, confined and not aggressive. Seems a good time to urge others to check!

September has been soooo busy that today was my first chance to get to the patch. Pretty incredible therefore that the first two migrants of my autumn were both Brown-chested Jungle Flycatchers - a very scarce passage migrant and red listed as "vulnerable' by IUCN #birding

Our last day on #MountKinabalu saw us trying to track down some missing endemics. Recent reports of a Fruithunter seen around Timphon Gate encouraged us to focus our efforts there, and despite having seen this species twice before in 2011, I was keen to see one again. I wasn't disappointed!

Our third day on #MountKinabalu was a wash out, with strong wind and heavy rain - it felt more like late October on Scilly! However before the weather closed in we spent first light watching a fantastic pair of Everett's Thrushes on the roadside - I love the smell of Zoothera in the morning!

Male & female Whitehead's Trogans #MountKinabalu #birding

The classic Whitehead's Trogan image. Our first afternoon on #MountKinabalu earlier this month found us watching a party of four trogans (two pairs). We encountered them on most days on the mountain.

Early morning in the foothills of the Crocker Range. A walk through the forest brought us to a hide overlooking the display ground of one of Asia's least known galliforms: Bornean Peacock-Pheasant. A magnificent male strutted around for more than 90 minutes, performing for us and his two females.

We were extremely lucky to encounter a pair of Crocker Jungle-Flycatchers at the hide in the Crocker Range. This unassuming Flycatcher is regarded as very scarce and localised. It was on my list of targets but we really didn't have much expectation of seeing it, so this was a real bonus!

The hide we visited in the Crocker Range hosted two species of Partridges on the day we visited. First up were a party of more than 50 Crested Patridges that appeared soon after dawn. Later on a lone Red-breasted Partridge loitered at the rear of the feeding area.

There are birds...and then there are Pittas! This is a stunning Bornean Banded Pitta in the Crocker Range, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.

Day 2 in the Crocker Range was just mad, visiting a much-touted hide where we at one moment had a male Bulwer's Pheasant (pic), Bornean Banded Pitta and Red-breasted Partridge on show...whilst a Rail-babbler was calling in the background. It was like being in Disney Land!

In mid-July I was fortunate to visit Sabah, Malaysian Borneo for 9 days - a birding trip focused on Mount Kinabalu & the Crocker Range. Highlight of Day 1 was this wonderfully confiding pair of Bornean Shortwings (male left, female right).

Not the best time of year to look for waders in Thailand, but I was handsomely rewarded with my target bird this morning. A total of seven Grey-tailed Tattlers on the coast about 45 minutes drive from home. ebird.org/checklist/S2...

This cracking male Green-backed Flycatcher on my patch this morning. My fifth record at this site, a scarce migrant through Bangkok with the peak period being mid-late April.

On my last day in Doi Pha Hom Pok NP I birded the summit trail of DPHP, Thailand's 2nd highest peak . After much searching I found a pair of Cutia and recorded a probable Purple Cochoa. I found three different Hodgson's Frogmouths on the way down after dark. I'll be back! ebird.org/checklist/S2...

My second day in Doi Pha Hom Pok NP saw me exploring the various birding sites of Doi Angkhang, including a temple where the Buddhist monks feed the birds and consequently great photo opportunities abound. Here we have Silver-eared Mesia, Blue-winged Minla and Black-breasted Thrush.

A highlight of birding Doi Lang last week involved getting excellent views of two Rufous-gorgeted Flycatchers, a bird I've not seen for a good few years. These birds sit dead still for prolonged periods, giving a delicious soft "tak" call that gets the pulse racing!

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend three days in various parts of Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park. On Day 1 I explored "Doi Lang West" - popular with bird tours and photographers. We had some unseasonal rain, so I found myself watching a party of four Mrs Hume's Pheasants in the fog! #Birding

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

Currently Bangkok is graced by a large flock of critically endangered Yellow-breasted Buntings at Lat Krabang. Flock size hard to estimate as it is spread across several fields but my conservative estimate would be 75-150 birds. My previous highest count in the province is just 10 birds!

Blue-throated Barbet from Kaeng Krachan NP on Monday #birding

Underwhelming photos but such a rare bird I'm going to post them anyway - the long staying Silver Oriole at Kaeng Krachan NP made me wait almost four hours before it showed. This species is listed as Endangered and has an estimated global population of less than 2,500 "mature individuals".

This absolutely fantastic (and massive!) Large Bamboo Rat between streams 2 & 3 at Kaeng Krachan yesterday.
