Flow Aura State parameters adds 30 AP(?) of Intensify Action Run Speed Up Ink Resistance Up Swim Speed Up

Earlier this week I've added some options to skip the news sequence and plaza tour that happens after the tutorial, and an option to skip the Octo Valley intro cutscene

I also decided to port minIni to Splatoon, a tiny C library for parsing ini files so I could add easily toggleable configurations

I managed to fix the Octostrikers so that they can work outside of their original context, as originally they would just throw you out of bounds if the post-defeat position wasn't setup. I also managed to make the ink splatter animation and cutscene that appears after you defeat them to only play...

...and here are the options that you'll be able to choose from, perhaps in a later version I could make it so that the item weights can be easily customized from the UI or a text file; gonna having a bit of a lightning round here

As for another thing I was curious about, I spent some time restoring some unused debug functionality in Splatoon 1's final boss against Octavio that draws various debugging info for his fight on screen such as the current state, distance from the player, current phase, etc

So uh 2025: - Properly got into programming and learned C++, Python, and C# (largely the former) - Experienced my first ever console launch with me getting the Switch 2 on day 1 - Got into Archipelago randomizers - Developed my own Splatoon 1 randomizer which got me into REing Good things this year

Aight here’s my SU movie review a few weeks later: Overall I had a good time, the songs were great and has some of the best songs of the entire series, Spinel was a fantastic character and it overall provided some great fanservice for those who stuck along since the start. 8/10

Now I plan on adding some kind of modifier for the item rando so that it less favors power-up items such as the armor and canned specials so it won’t be too easy after getting some feedback in the splatoon speedrunning discord

I haven't posted in this thread in months but no this project isn't dead; I've been working on this slowly in the background as I've been continuing to RE the game for my Archipelago implementation which I've posted some things about, and I've been working on updates to the main rando itself.

Guess I'll try this but with video game opinions to start off with instead cause I think that would be interesting, maybe I'll throw in some other topics if I get bored

I may or may not potentially be back on my bullshit.

A couple hours ago I now open sourced my repo containing my heavily WIP Splatoon 1 custom code headers that aims to document the game’s various classes and structures, which you can check out here github.com/techmuse8/Ga...

After an hour or so of writing headers (just enough so I could do this) later, I made a thing that allows you to unlock levels at whatever conditional you want, such as receiving item unlocks for a potential Splatoon Archipelago implementation! (more technical details down below)

Just got a rough prototype working for my message receiving system for my Splatoon 1 Archipelago mod that I've been working on this weekend, there's still a lot I have to do but it's nice to have a PoC, the messages are currently being sent over UDP but I'll have to switch to websockets soonish

spent some time yesterday looking into Splatoon 1’s debug text drawing features that's apart of sead (essentially Nintendo’s implementation of the C++ STL) and now I can do this, this is nice for my Archipelago mod

oh man did it not disappoint, easily my favorite indie pilot of the year. I want to do a more in-depth review later on but for first impressions I'll say that the characters are really engaging, the art direction and animation is phenomenal, and in general I really enjoyed the mystery and horror

Can’t wait to watch Knights of Guinevere, it’s easily my most anticipated indie pilot of the year

It would’ve been cool to make a nintendo direct bingo but I was busy these past couple days so I didn’t really have time to make one, so here’s a list of randomish predictions down below

Far Flung Flooders took me quite a bit just to figure out why the enemy with the key in the last section wasn't spawning, I just needed to make sure that the enemy with the key that's originally linked to a flooder so it can move with it is paired with a flooder or squee-g (yes that actually works)

and just now I got around to fixing (hopefully) all of them

summary of the above playthrough, it was fun, though I did run into these softlocks

wow the amount of screen tearing i've been getting in newer version of windows 11 on discord is really obnoxious

opening your new game announcement with this is so fucking funny and real

Here's the first prototype of my enemy randomizer, gonna have to implement some logic so that you won't get a squee-g in sections where you have to defeat all the enemies to progress or just cut them, it's also funny seeing how the octostrikers work outside of their own stages which I'll deal with

From a few days ago but it's nice to see my custom code for the weapon randomizer working on console after some messing around to get it to properly load

Got it working so that it includes the hero shot as well, and at the proper level (no roller in this clip because I messed up something, but now that’s fixed)

finally back home from vacation, now things should resume as normal and hopefully I can get a public beta out for my Octo Valley randomizer sometime this week
