Every aspect of this boondoggle will get worse. And I'm leaving out so much that I'm enormously concerned about—such as the fact that he is doing this during an economic collapse and government shutdown, using dark money, and clearly is building this because he believes he will be president forever.

No one has found any examples of Harry Truman lying to the public about much-needed White House renovations. Yet here we are in 2025, and a man deemed the worst president ever—largely due to his frauds and dishonesty—has already publicly turned this project into a fraud littered with new Trump lies.

Trump fans are frantically pointing out that more than 75 years ago, a Democratic president considered one of the best in American history made changes to the White House with taxpayer money. Don't fall for that analogy. This President is a known fraudster and liar deemed the worst POTUS in history.

There's not a single reason to believe this project is anything but a giant scam—and possible criminal conspiracy. Not only is the ballroom unneeded; not only has Trump lied about a historical desire for such a space among past administrations; but he's already lied about all aspects of the project.

I say this because Trump has a well-documented history of stealing from charities, running fake fundraisers, taking money raised for one purpose and using it for another, redirecting fundraiser money to his own pockets, defrauding banks and investors, and lying about construction costs.

It gets worse—and I'm not even talking about the fact that the interior design for the building strongly resembles a famous Russian ballroom in St. Petersburg. Trump claims he'll give the $230 million he steals from us to charity—but as he surely won't, he's likely to take a fraudulent tax writeoff.

Just as we learned that costs for the ballroom would be $250 million—a figure that's now already gone up by an additional 20%—we were told Trump plans to steal $230 million from the Treasury to pay himself over alleged harms from past DOJ prosecutions. Prosecutions in which he was guilty but let go.

It gets worse. No one who reports on Trump regularly believed he'd allow private donations earmarked for his political operation to be used to construct this ballroom. The universal view was that Trump would do what he usually does and steal the money from taxpayers. That now appears to be the plan.

Per usual, Trump has lied about every aspect of this. He now says it'll cost 50% more than when he announced it. He now says it'll be much bigger than originally planned. He said he wouldn't touch the East Wing, and he's now demolishing it. He said he would accept input from US agencies, but hasn't.
