Since March, Pottery Primary School has introduced a new way of learning through outdoor play – which Mr Hooley, Pottery’s Headteacher, explained to me in my recent visit. It was great to learn about how it has improved their children's education.

Next week, I am going to be walking across Mid Derbyshire - experiencing some of the wonderful sites and attractions the constituency has to offer. I hope to meet a lot of residents, organisations, and community leaders while I am out to hear about the issues that matter to them.

I had great fun calling two charity games of bingo at Ritz Bingo, Belper, recently. I learned how they have been fundraising for Variety, The Children’s Charity, and have raised over £2 million since 2015. It was great to play a small role in that.

It was a pleasure to attend a drop-in with British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme trustees at Westminster recently. I am pleased the government is working with BCSSS Trustees to see this issue resolved, and I will continue to support Mid Derbyshire residents in getting a positive outcome.

I attended the celebration of 50 Years of the Hindu Temple at Geeta Bhawan Derby last weekend with residents of Mid Derbyshire. This was my first visit to a Hindu Temple, and I enjoyed a really warm welcome and wonderful hospitality. I look forward to going again in the future.

It was fantastic to visit Belper Leisure Centre and meet with representatives from Trilogy Active to see the results of the recent extensive refurbishment programme. We discussed the challenges the leisure centre has faced over recent years, and the now positive outlook for the future.

I met with the Neighbourhood Watch team in Quarndon on Sunday. They raised concerns regarding a string of burglaries in the village, which I have been working to draw attention to this serious issue with Nicolle Ndiweni-Robert, Derbyshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, and with Derbyshire Police.

Rolls-Royce SMR has just been selected to deliver the UK’s first Small Modular Reactor – an advanced nuclear reactor that will boost our energy independence with green, cheap, and reliable energy. This will benefit Mid Derbyshire residents with 3000 new good jobs created and our bills being cut.

Parliamentary recess is always a valuable time to connect with people across Mid Derbyshire. This time, I spent the afternoon in Little Eaton, visiting the local pharmacy, Barry Fitch Butchers, and The Little Kitchen café - listening to their concerns and looking into how I could help them.

I am incredibly grateful to all the carers who took the time out of their busy schedules to attend an event I recently held with Derbyshire Carers and Healthwatch Derbyshire. I am committed to holding similar follow-up events to keep the conversation going.

In West Hallam, Paul Aldred and his company Aldred Cricket Bats handcraft high-quality cricket bats that are used here at home and sold across the world. We discussed key industry challenges, from regulatory concerns to the benefits of local councils planting English Willows.

I am pleased to hear that the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trusts is one of 28 Trusts to receive new Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machines, which better scan and target complex areas such as the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. Really important manifesto pledge fulfilled.

It was valuable to go to St John’s primary school to see how they are providing a great education to their young people. The children were enthusiastic about learning, and it wasn’t hard to see why. The school grounds were amazing, with baby chickens and caterpillars in one of the classrooms.

I was delighted to visit Morley Primary School, one of 24 schools across Derbyshire to be an early adopter of Labour's free breakfast clubs. This will make a huge difference for families across the country when it's fully rolled out.

It was a pleasure to attend the launch of Belper Community Transport on Saturday. A small number of dedicated individuals has fought to set this organisation up following the sad demise of Derbyshire Community Transport, and Belper residents will benefit. Congratulations to all.

It is vital that decision-makers get to hear people’s lived experience so that they can better use the levers of government to improve lives. Flooding is becoming more of an issue as our climate changes, which also makes addressing the climate emergency an even greater priority.

Across Mid Derbyshire, we have a number of world-leading companies that provide high quality jobs for local residents. Vaillant, which is headquartered in Belper, recently opened a new site in Derby to produce state-of-the-art uniSTOR high recovery slimline water cylinders.

One of the issues most frequently raised is the appalling state of the roads. The RAC recently found Derbyshire’s roads to be the worst in England. Behind this is years of cuts to councils and the mismanagement, we have experienced from Derbyshire County Council’s Conservatives.

It was fascinating to learn about Derbyshire Blood Bikes, and to meet some of its volunteers. They selflessly give of their time to assist the NHS, and provide valuable medical supplies. Thousands of people have benefitted from the charity’s work, sometimes without even realising it.

We had a really good campaign day on Saturday! Thank you to everyone we spoke to on the doorstep, I had some very interesting conversations.

I met with Olly Paish, the designer of the hydro scheme at Cromford Mills, to talk about how hydroelectricity is a stable energy generator that serves our communities for many years due to its long lifespan. By reviewing the regulations around hydro scheme, we make these schemes more accessible.

Since COVID, a lot of our financial interactions have gone digital. But there is still a role for cash. Banking hubs are powerful tools for our communities, serving local people as our high street banks close and move online. That's why I visited Belper's banking hub.
