Giants are retiring Jeff Kent's No. 21 on Aug. 29, a month after his HOF induction. Not many 20s left for this organization: 20 (Irvin), 21 (Kent), 22 (Clark), 24 (Mays), 25 (Bonds), 27 (Marichal). All that's left: 23 (Vitello's number), 26, 28 (not for long), 29.

Giants make official the Tyler Mahle signing. He'll join Webb, Ray, Roupp, Houser in the rotation. The question is whether the front office will add another starter in the coming weeks.

Sounds like it could have been a pretty club-friendly contract for Giants, who enter the new year without yet making a big splash.

Buster Posey on if he'd listen to Eldridge trade talk: "I think he's got a chance to be one of the biggest impact bats for the next 10 to 15 years in the big leagues, potentially. We'll listen, but we like him a lot." Added Giants can make it work with Devers/Eldridge at 1B/DH.

Good for Marco Luciano, who'll get a new chance with Pittsburgh, which claimed him off waivers from Giants. The Joey Bart path could serve Luciano well. Was out of options, and Giants had too many outfielders on the 40-man roster. Pirates love Giants' former No 1 prospects.

Giants announce one-year deal for lefty reliever Sam Hentges. Missed last season with shoulder surgery and knee surgery and expected to be good for training camp. Posted 2.93 ERA in 2022-24 with 155 K’s in 138 innings with Cleveland. He’s 29 and 6-8.
