On 25th October 2025, we’ll proudly celebrate the distribution of 25 million trees to communities with support from the Welsh Government through @sizeofwales.bsky.social . 🎉 To mark this historic journey,we’ve created special edition celebration kits — available at only UGX 25,000 for the marathon.

Since 2010, Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise (METGE), with support from the Welsh Government through @sizeofwales.bsky.social, has distributed 25 million trees to communities across the Mount Elgon region. To celebrate this achievement, METGE is organizing celebrations on 25th/October/2025.

Together with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) , the Bulambuli District Local Government and community groups have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as firm commitment by all parties to safeguard the park, halt tree cutting, and collectively work towards the restoration of the park.

With support from @AdmiralLife, we have kicked off the restoration of 44 hectares of degraded strip in Mount Elgon National Park in Bulambuli District. @sizeofwales.bsky.social @barbara-davies-quy.bsky.social .

We held a community engagement meeting to prepare for tree planting in Mount Elgon National Park. Through the Tree Planting for Improved Livelihood Project, and with support from Admiral, we are set to restore 44 hectares of degraded parkland. @sizeofwales.bsky.social @barbara-davies-quy.bsky.social

We conducted a joint monitoring exercise with our partners Spark Microgrants in Bulambuli to follow up on the trees distributed to farmers. It was inspiring to see how these trees are thriving and contributing to restoration and climate resilience in our communities. @sizeofwales.bsky.social

METGE envisions a thriving beekeeping industry in the Mount Elgon region that not only provides income for local communities but also plays a crucial role in promoting biodiversity and environmental conservation.

The Calliandra plan has been powerful for restoring land and improving livelihoods. Its ability to fix nitrogen naturally enriches the soil, making it ideal for planting along contours, farm boundaries, and degraded areas. @sizeofwales.bsky.social
