As Paul says, given what the Tories have said locally, it's deeply concerning that they tried to conspire with AELTC to re-write the law in their favour. We will keep backing Paul in his fight to find a sensible compromise for the community.

A message from Mind charity on World Mental Health Day #WMHD2025

Many thanks to the GDST for inviting me to the launch of their report on “Designing the Future of Girls’ Education”. My 4 daughters all benefitted from attending single sex senior schools & it was lovely to meet the Head of Wimbledon High School, where one of them was a pupil.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to address politics students at Ewell Castle, my former school. I loved going down memory lane & answering the engaging questions of current students.

I joined Ed Davey & Sarah Olney at Bedelsford school to discuss ICB cuts to care packages for disabled children, which is having a huge impact on these children & their families. It’s so important that their voices are heard & we will continue to press this issue.

Today marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In Wimbledon, 40% of eligible women aren’t attending screening, while Merton remains one of London’s only boroughs without a dedicated screening centre. I’ll keep fighting for better access for our community.

Merton’s young people say mental health is their top priority. Supporting our motion is Labour’s chance to show they take this seriously. We want to put young people at the heart of support programmes & bring charities, schools & experts together.

It's been far too long since Labour launched these flagship consultations. No feedback, no action, & not a single penny spent. This culture of delay shows that Labour can't be left in control.

We're always hearing that young people get stuck in the cracks between childrens' and adults' mental health services. We've asked what Labour council bosses are doing to help.

We want to ensure every child in Merton has a secure home. Concerningly, figures from the end of last year showed were 931 children living in temporary accommodation, 40% of them for >2yrs. We've asked the Council to give the latest update & outline how they will address it.

St Helier's estimated repair costs are 12 times the amount put on the table by the Labour Government. Is this all that Labour in power - locally and nationally - can deliver?

We’re deeply concerned that Wimbledon is in the top 5% of constituencies affected worst by unemployment claims since Labour came into Government. We’ve demanded answers from the Council's leadership on how it’s come to this & how they can help.

If Labour's future welfare cuts target only new claimants, it could divide our community and leave some unfairly treated. We want to know how the Council will ensure support reaches everyone who needs it locally.

I’m acutely aware of ongoing issues with District Line services, affecting both my constituents & visitors during this busy period. I've contacted TfL for urgent updates on recent issues & requested a meeting to discuss improving reliability of services in short & longer term.
