Our 'Outside the Asylum' display is situated outside the museum's entrance doors. You can find out about some of the people who were admitted to the asylum, and view artefacts once hidden in our collection which help to give a better picture of their lives as patients. #HistPsych

Today we accessioned and displayed a large collection of crockery used by staff and patients at the former Worcester Royal Infirmary. Introduced in 1948, it was made at Burslem not Worcester (sorry @TheMoRW!) Green bands and crests were used by staff, and red by patients.

A great time was had by all last week celebrating our Outside the Asylum project. Funded by National Lottery through Arts Council England, Maddie Hale gave a talk about some patients and the Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Lamb joined us to say a massive THANK YOU to all of the project volunteers.

Today we have accessioned this Royal Red Cross medal (2nd Class). It was awarded to Matron Herbert for her work with wounded soldiers at the Worcester Infirmary during the First World War. This was the first medal for women for devotion and competence in nursing duties.

Welcome Tiffany! She will be working with us for 8 weeks as part of her MA in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. Her placement will focus on our schools programme and include the development of a brand new War and Medicine Workshop!

Work experience student Eileen has produced a fabulous little children's activity based on our apothecary shop and creating herbal remedies for diseases. This is a great activity for families with children and another reason to visit your friendly local medical museum!

Penny just donated these two pre-loved baby dolls for us to play with as part of our Birthing Stories project. We'll be adding them to outreach box related to all things birth and birthing. We're hopeful the project will begin in September. Thank you, Penny!
