First data are in and show that Clathrus archeri, native to Australia and New Zealand, has conquered central Europe. Can't wait to see its distribution widen as the fruiting season begins in other parts of Europe! 👉

Just recorded a Turtle Dove in a fenland bird survey, but no way of knowing if it’s a wild bird or one of these idiotic amateur releases. This really matters for conservation. Treating Turtle Doves like pheasants masks the decline. Maybe that’s the point...

After a few decades post clear cutting, ectomycorrhizal fungal communities are still slowly recovering and certain species are still more likely to be found in the forest rather than on the forest edges or openings.

Yesterday, we had the chance to present our proposal to the Estonian Environmental Board and Climate Ministry: 29 more fungal species for protection, in addition to the ~40 already listed. My favorite: Rigidoporus crocatus—locally common in wet alder forests, globally rare. Our responsibility!
