In honor of Tatsuya Nakadai I wanted to watch The Human Condition, but my meeting ran way late at work and I didn't have time for a 9 hour movie last night. So I watched Kwaidan instead, at only 3 hours. I'm still processing it, but this is the most stunning ghost movie I've seen.

Can't do weird/F'd up 80s animation without Akira. This is my (...checks notes) 4th favorite anime film of all time and this rewatch validated that. The detail and care put into this film is so apparent and equally impressive. Eventually I'll read the manga, but I say that every time I watch this.

Secret of Nimh upon rewatch is great, but maybe I had a touch of nostalgia in my memory of it. Still a great story about a hero who is just a normal person (mouse)and some creepy visuals (I direct you to the last image.) Also answer this for me chat, what is Mrs. Brisby's first name???

When the Wind Blows is a haunting tale contrasted by its storybook visual style. My heart breaks for this couple who get it all wrong simple by being too trusting and following the rules. Also can't gloss over the serene music by Sir Roger Waters.

Angel's Egg wasn't exactly weird, but was very good. Surreal minimalist visuals, truly an example of the phrase "Every frame a painting."

Now THIS is weird. Son of the White Mare was excellent. I love that my main thought across the whole film was "Am I high?"

Gandahar was a little weird, but just a little. Fun sci-fi sotry. Characters had that early animation staring into the void look about them, which is always funny. But I need WEIRDER!!!

I changed my mind, I watch enough baseball. I'm gonna do a "animation August" type thing instead, with an emphasis on weird traumatizing 80s films. We'll how long until I decide to change my mind again.

Well after watching an hour long video essay. This month I will be watching a lot of baseball movies. I'll let you know how I like Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch (which I couldn't find a gif of)

Junk Head is another weird, fucked up stop-motion animated film that I loved to no surprise. Apparently this was the start of a trilogy and I'm on board.

I'm gonna have bad dreams after watching Mad God, aren't I. All kinds of strange and Fucked up... It was awesome! Loved this.

On this yesterday 27 years ago, we saw the release of the first American Godzilla film. Look, this is a bad Godzilla movie, even without the kings name it's not a very good monster movie either. The characters are fine I guess (except for Broderick) I mean come on man.

Quick thoughts after finishing Expedition 33 • This is one of my favorite rpgs of all time. Could possibly make it into my favorite GAMES of all time. • Amazingly balanced party. Everyone can be OP. • Verso might be one of the best characters ever written. • I could go on and on but I'm out of ch...

I'm am fully engrossed in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I love everything about it right now. Lune is absolutely best girl, I will be taking no questions.

It's been a week since I watched Burning and I can't stop thinking about it. It's such a fascinating, ethereal film, made me feel like I was in a daydream. Masterfully shot and acted by essentially a cast of three. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I recommend everyone to give it a try. 🔥 🔥

Album review time. Coheed and Cambria, Vaxis 3. Look this is my favorite band and I've never given an album under 9.5, and that ain't changing. Vaxis 2 is still my favorite but this is a close second. This album has amazing energy and the lyrics are 🤌. Also amazing artwork as usual. 9.6/Vaxis 2

My movie theme this month has been modern Hong Kong movies and it's been a blast. Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In has been my favorite so far. Characters had a lot of heart and of course the action was spectacular. Especially getting to see Sammo Hung tear it up at SEVENTY TWO YEARS OLD!!

So many David Lynch films to watch in the wake of his passing. What will you choose to wa.... You're going to watch Dune aren't you?

Watching a film series and then reading the source material afterwards for the first time is fascinating. "The readers will get it." Is my favorite producer speak for why things get cut out.

Dune: Prophecy in my opinion really stuck the landing on the finale! Not everything was answered, and new questions were raised, but I'm very excited to see where season 2 takes us. My biggest plus of the finale is a spoiler so you'll have to guess what that is.

The final Heisei film of the week. Godzilla vs. Biollante released 35 years ago today. I love this one. Great story that was submitted by a fan, good characters, the debut Miki Saegusa, and the great 1/2 Godzilla 1/2 plant 1/2 human Biollante. This was a fun week, thanks all for listening.

Yesterday was also the 40th anniversary of David Lynch's Dune. This film is kind of a mess, I mean the middle 1/3 of the book is put into a five minute montage. But I'll always have a soft spot for it because it's Dune, and David Lynch. Two things that are great aren't always great together.

The penultimate Heisei movie this week is Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, released 33 years ago on this day. A delightfuly bonkers movie with good characters, time travel, and the return of Akira Ifukube's exceptional music. A great entry featuring the return of the king's greatest rival.

The first film of the Heisei series, The Return of Godzilla, is 40 today. A return to form after a nine year hiatus, amazing effects, forgettable humans save the PM, and an Americanized version with hilarious product placement. A strong entry and start to this era of the King of the Monsters.

No Godzilla movie from the Heisei era released today. Instead here's my favorite Jason Voorhees kill. Happy Friday the 13th!!

The Heisei Godzilla movie of the day is Godzilla vs. Mothra, released 32 years ago today. This ones interesting. Almost more of a Mothra sequel then a Goji movie. Battra is a neat concept, the two leads have great chemistry, and the new twins are wonderful singers. Just needs more Godzilla
