Quick stop off at Exton and Lympstone Commando this evening for a nice walk along the estuary!

Heading down the West of England line this afternoon which means quite a slow journey due to the temporary timetable. The 20 minute wait at Gillingham did give a nice chance for a leg stretch halfway through though 😁

Very nice walk over the Humber Bridge from Barton to Hessle, might do it again when it’s not so windy!

Healing ✅ Stallingborough ✅ Just enough time to walk between these two while the train goes to Cleethorpes and back. Very nice shelter at Stallingborough too!

Ulceby ✅ Just the single platform in the middle of a lot of junctions! I tried walking to the abandoned Brocklesby station from here but ran out of time so had to turn back.

Cleethorpes ✅ TPE ✅ Only time for a quick pic here as we arrived late, seems to be a bit of a theme on this line 😂

Great Coates ✅ Very big step up to the train here, also got a nice garden on the platform and a wooden train outside the station

Grimsby Town ✅ Finishing up the Barton line today! Arrived in late so only time for a quick pic before getting a bus to Great Coates.

Stratford-upon-Avon ✅ Sadly only had time for a 10min turnaround here, I’ll probably come back at some point

Henley-in-Arden ✅ Wootton Wawen ✅ Danzey ✅ 3 very nice stations down the southern end of this line. Wootton Wawen and Danzey used to be request stops but now they’re all mandatory stops, although no one else got off 😂

Warwick ✅ Warwick Parkway ✅ Solihull ✅ Just a half hour wait at both Warwicks as I can never find a double back that works. From Solihull I got a bus to Henley-in-Arden to get to the Shakespeare Line

Would be a bit of a waste of a day off to go straight home after the sleeper, so instead I’ve come to Marylebone to head north hauled by a powerful class 82 🔥

Sadly back in London now after getting the sleeper back from Inverness. Not the smoothest of rides but still managed to get about 5 hours sleep which is more than I was expecting 😁

Also went to Attadale, Strathcarron and Kyle of Lochalsh while I’m up here! 😍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Absolutely stunning walk along the coast from Buckie to Cullen! 😍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The buses to get here might’ve been a bit expensive but it’s still worth it 😂

Stansted Airport ✅ Been my busiest required station for a while so good to get it done! Luckily I’ve ended up with a 745/0 back to London which means declassified first class 😁

Newport ✅ Elsenham ✅ Great Chesterford ✅ West Anglia Mainline ✅ Still a manual level crossing at Elsenham which is rare to see nowadays! Also one of the tallest footbridges I’ve ever seen!

This afternoon was spent ticking a few stations on the WAML, starting with Stansted Mountfitchet ✅ Harlow Mill ✅ Bishops Stortford ✅ A few delays meant almost an hour at Harlow Mill, but fortunately was able to stay on plan. Bishops Stortford completes Hertfordshire ✅

Yarm ✅ Slightly annoying one to do so it’ll make this area easier to come back to

Northallerton ✅ East Coast Mainline ✅ Last minute plan to get this done with LNER stopping additionally, just a quick change onto a Grand Central!

A couple hours in Paris to get from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord and now sadly time to leave. Fortunately this time my 373 hasn’t been swapped so I can try one of these for the first time to London!

Sadly it’s time to leave Lyon and head home, but as my train goes from Saint-Exupéry Airport I need to take the Rhônexpress tram! Now heading to Paris on a double decker TGV in first class as it was only a few € more than standard!

Vieux Lyon! 🇫🇷 A couple of funiculars leave from here as this part is very hilly! I had a go on both of these then had a walk around the cathedral and an old Roman theatre! 😍

Quite a big station at Lyon Saint-Paul for just 2 tram-trains an hour! I’m guessing there used to be a lot more trains from here.

Took a train to the lovely city of Saint-Étienne yesterday! 🇫🇷

Wendover ✅ Great Missenden ✅ Stoke Mandeville ✅ Just about timed this right as these go down to hourly for a bit in the middle of the day. Stoke Mandeville has a very nice garden with some interesting sculptures!

Rickmansworth ✅ Chorleywood ✅ Chalfont & Latimer ✅ Amersham ✅ Been to over 2500 stations but I’m still missing some TfL ones 😂 These 4 are all served by Chiltern too so they still come under the list of National Rail stations.

Heading back via Peterborough for a change, where I ran into @trainfanmatt.bsky.social for a quick catch up! Saw the Bradford liveried Azuma pass through before Matt headed north hauled by a powerful class 82, and another one took me south to Kings Cross 🔥

Soham ✅ Cambridgeshire ✅ Fairly new station which opened in 2021! Shame it only gets a 2 hourly service though, but I think there’s talks about making it hourly.

Watlington ✅ Norfolk ✅ A bit of Network SouthEast branding on the totem sign, but that’s it. Another nice signal box here too!

Downham Market ✅ Beautiful station with Network SouthEast branding everywhere, and a lovely signal box too! Had to skip this last time I was on this line because of a cancellation so I’m glad to come back.

Passing Cambridge South, doesn’t look like it’s too far off opening 👀

Absolutely incredible first class carriage on Great Northern’s ex GWR 387s.

Normal service has resumed - just trains and no buses here now! 9 coaches of mega traction taking me home now 😁
