This week I launched a Community Wealth Building Commission, bringing together experts and practitioners, to create a plan to build fairer local economies in York and North Yorkshire with workers and communities at their heart.

At a time when Yorkshire Water customers are facing a 41% increase in bills alongside environmental failures and customer service shortcomings, the news that the Chief Executive has received additional payments is wholly unacceptable. As Yorkshire mayors, we have requested an urgent meeting.

We are deeply disappointed that universities in the North of England, some of the best and brightest in the world, have once again been overlooked in the allocation of national innovation funding, despite their research credentials.

Backing British Buses 🚌 🇬🇧 Made right here in Scarborough! Today I attended the Bus Manufacturing Roundtable, hosted by Heidi Alexander & Simon Lightwood, who are both pressing to expedite new bus orders & back British manufacturing at bus builders like Alexander Dennis in Eastfield, Scarborough.

Improving men’s mental health is deeply personal to me, this morning I talked to BBC Radio York about my experiences and why my Men’s Mental Health Fund is so important to help more men across York and North Yorkshire get the help and support they need and deserve.

Really proud today to get two funds approved that are incredibly close to my heart. These funds will have a proper launch in the Autumn, but it’s great to finally confirm this work today!

Today marks a new era for affordable housing in our region. The Affordable Homes Standards establishes for the first time in York and North Yorkshire a benchmark for what affordable housing should look like. 🏡

The Great Yorkshire Show was fab! Celebrating the innovation and traditions of farming in York and North Yorkshire, & beyond. My report on farm finance revealed that half of farms struggle to make a sustainable profit, & I'm committed to working with farmers to boost profitability and resilience.

A busy week championing investment, growth, and community in York and North Yorkshire at UKREiiF, the Mayoral Council and Council of Nations and Regions. York and North Yorkshire is open for business, and this week I took that message to the UK's largest housing and infrastructure conference.

Today on VE Day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for peace and freedom. It marked the end of war in Europe, and the start of communities rebuilding with hope. It’s an incredible honour to represent our region at the National Service of Thanksgiving in Westminster Abbey.

One year as Mayor of York and North Yorkshire - it's been a whirlwind. I'm so grateful and proud to have had the opportunity to meet people right across our beautiful region and be the first mayor to give York and North Yorkshire a voice on the national stage.

In York and North Yorkshire, Co-operative Mayor @davidskaith.bsky.social has committed £600,000 to renovate community halls and hubs, £10,000,000 to create a Carbon Negative Challenge Fund, and aims to make the region England's first carbon negative region by 2040. 🌱

Retail crime is a blight on our high streets and our communities. North Yorkshire Police are making great progress, but there’s more to do. Last week I attended their Retail Crime Symposium to hear how retailers, the police & others can come together to make our high streets safe places for all.

🏡 𝟭,𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗻   I’ve been pushing for action to speed up housing delivery on our disused UK Ministry of Defence sites.   Now, the government has announced plans to unlock MoD land for housing, including 1,300 homes in Ripon, with construction starting within 12 months.

A great week to thank partners for all they are doing to improve our environment and tackle the challenges facing our rural communities accessing health & care services. I’m working hard to make York & North Yorkshire a healthy and thriving region for all our residents, in all our communities.

I’m committed to fixing the broken foundations across York and North Yorkshire. Top of my list is sorting out our bus and rail services and ramping up active travel - good to talk to Heidi Alexander today about how we can work together to deliver these.

Working together across boundaries we can unlock so much for our communities, the economy and boost opportunities. Today I signed the White Rose Agreement with the Mayor of South Yorkshire and Mayor of West Yorkshire - a new era of partnership and devolution across Yorkshire.

Great news for Scarborough, which is set to receive £20m from the Labour government to breathe new life into the community through the Plan for Neighbourhoods. The new Neighbourhood Board will bring together residents, businesses, and community campaigners to decide how to spend the funding.

Strong Yorkshire, strong UK! Great to meet up with Tracy, Oliver and Angela at Yorkshire and Humber Labour Party Conference.

Spent the day with an army of volunteers putting together hampers and dinners for people who will be alone on Christmas Day. Not sure I’ve ever done anything more worthwhile in my life. A joy to be apart of. 🎄
