@aamc.org predicts that by 2036, the US will face a workforce shortage of up to 86,000 physicians, with about 40,000 in primary care alone. This is especially concerning as primary care is foundational to prevention, early intervention and chronic disease management and all communities depend on it.

I know how challenging it can be to lead in uncertain and unpredictable times, from COVID-19 to seismic shifts in scientific research funding. That’s why I’m eager to hear former U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s upcoming keynote, “Leadership in Uncertain Times” at #AAMC25 this November.

September is #SuicidePreventionMonth — and in academic medicine, this message unfortunately could not be more urgent. Many in the field experience overwhelming stress, burnout, and isolation, as the weight of caring for others can come at a cost.
