Examining data from Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland, J. Lacroix, @ischiathere.bsky.social, @maryabedalahad.bsky.social, H. Kulu, together with G. Andersson, show that immigrants and refugees tend to move to urban areas following initial settlement and dispersal policy.

The final presentation was delivered by @sarahchristison.bsky.social who looked at #housing, #partnership & #fertility of immigrants & descendants in the #UK. Births were most likely for homeowners & homeownership entry is heterogenous regardless of partnership which may suggest disadvantage.

@maryabedalahad.bsky.social jumped from France to #Sweden to look at #homeownership, #marriage & #childbirth among #immigrants & their #descendants. She shows greater life event convergence to the Swedish natives across migrant generations & the importance of homeownership for other life events.

@jharrison37.bsky.social is next presenting his work on #births, #partnerships & residential #mobility of #immigrants & #descendants in #France! He shows that African immigrants exhibit higher event intensity, some fertility convergence across generations & that residential barriers persist.

@jiseonbaek.bsky.social presented her PhD work on the #fertility & #employment link for #immigrants & #descendants in the #UK. She shows with #multiprocess modelling that we underestimate #childbearing for various migrant groups & its implications on how we view their childbearing & #career paths.

They showed heterogeneities in moving depending on employment entry timing & the implications for #lifecourse #stability.

Our very own @ischiathere.bsky.social presented on #motherhood & #employment for #descendants in #Germany vs natives! She showed interesting findings particularly between different migrant groups in Germany and employment changes particularly #parttime work between first and second births!

Andreas Höhn presented at the Symposium on joint work looking at #working life expectancies of #immigrants and their #descendants in the #UK with interesting findings by origin group and sex using #multistate methods!

The Symposium keynote was delivered by Prof Inta Mierina (University of Latvia). Inta presented on the themes of nationalism, nation building, (anti-)immigration sentiment & how migrant origin affects societal acceptance. Inta also reflected on her work on immigrant ex/inclusion across local areas.

The symposium delegates are enjoying the sun in St Salvator’s Quad outside the Lower College Hall symposium venue! We are pleased to have such a great turnout with enthusiastic participation in the sessions so far!
