Q for my fellow Assoc/Asst Editor types (ie the kind that request reviewers): How strong a role should editors play in rejecting articles that may be perfectly good science, but study issues/have findings that are VERY well covered in the field, just with a slightly different sample or geography?

AI helps write a peer-reviewed economics paper in one hour. Not a draft. Not an outline. A published paper that passed peer review in a respected journal. And that's not even the most interesting part of this story...

Who is the better peer reviewer choice? A young postdoc who published 1-3 papers on exactly the topic of the submitted manuscript or the experienced prof with hundreds of publications (and reviews) in the general domain of the submitted manuscript?
