Another weird modern media thing I've been thinking about is, like, why DIDN'T the web open up better discourse? Why didn't a vast forum, with ready access to information produce more truth? Lots of reasons, I suppose, but I think part of what's going on is actually fairly pre-Internet.

California is in a salmon extinction crisis. Three years of closed fisheries, weak water protections, and delays on Tribal water rights have pushed salmon—and the communities that depend on them—to the brink. It’s time to act on science, Tribal leadership, and real water solutions.

Lots of people know Manzanita's are beautiful and support pollinators. Most don't know that the berries are edible! Breaking the dry berries up and removing the seeds produces a sweet meal that is halfway between flour and sugar and makes a wonderful natural sweetener.

Processing acorn by hand is slow and a TON of work, but satisfying. I did some machinery tests in late December for cracking and cleaning the nuts and then did the rest of the process by hand. This is California's most perfect native food.
