Hunting rare fungi in the dark, before dawn - I’m completely normal #fungi

The wonderful and rare Hazel Gloves Fungus (Hypocreopsis rhododendri). I love the fact that it’s a parasite, not of the Hazel trees where you find it, but of another fungus, Glue Crust (Hymenochaete corrugata), which forms the actual crust on the Hazel branches. 11/10/25 #fungi

Newly emerged Deer-fly or Deer Ked (Lipoptena cervi) a member of the louse fly family. These insects are parasites of deer (shedding their wings once they reach a host) burrowing through the fur and sucking the blood of the host animals. #insect #parasite

Ivy is such an important food source for insects. Look at all the bees, wasps, flies, hover flies and butterflies on this small patch in Dorset. A few predators making the most of it too. My favourite though, the Ivy Bee (Colletes hederae) #insect #ivy
