Thank you to Cumbria Life Magazine and everyone who voted for us in the Cumbria Life Awards! We were thrilled to win the Best Environmental Project Award for our volunteer work. Our Vol coordinator couldn't attend the awards, so we took the award to her instead at the tree nursery!

We’ve been checking river temps – not a scientific study, but worrying results: 🌡️18°C at St John’s Beck | 17°C at Keswick | 16.1°C at Seathwaite. Fish get stressed at 18°C. We’re not even in summer yet. Shade from riverside trees really matters.

Bird of the day yesterday was a Grasshopper Warbler and today was a Curlew. Both in meadows behind those trees on the side of Bassenthwaite Lake. Both species are on the Red List for Conservation Concern.

1. You feel powerless? Don’t know what you can do to resist the rise of fascism? Here is an answer: Good Things. Fascism inflicts pain and harm as a matter of doctrine. Kindness, care and conviviality defend us from it. The more we build community, the less it can take root. 🧵

The Conscientious Objectors' Road. Dartmoor. Built by Conscientious Objectors' "housed" in Dartmoor Prison during The Great War this is a road that goes nowhere, has no purpose and exemplifies the petty vindictiveness of the majority to those minorities whose views do not conform to their own.

Some of the views from Criffel yesterday morning. Even when there is too much haze and sun in the wrong angle to enjoy the Lakeland Hills vista clearly, the fascinating Estuary channels never disappoint.
