Alliance Party MLA for North Down
Hard to understand the rationale for this. 79.4% of parents at Bangor Academy and 82.3% at Rathmore voted for transformation. Many are now feeling disappointed & concerned at this decision. I have contacted both schools and will be raising with the Education Minister.

Really glad I could join Nexus yesterday in Bangor Castle to mark their 40th anniversary and recognise the thousands of people they’ve helped on their journey to recover from sexual abuse and violence.

Great to be at the launch of
@womensaidni.bsky.social
Social Action Youth project in Stormont this evening. Incredible work developed by children and young people who are survivors of domestic abuse, launching resources and shaping policy. Well done to all involved 👏🏻

It’s shameful that other parties have voted against Alliance’s plan to increase penalties for polluters. Our proposal would’ve reversed the DUP’s cap on cross-compliance penalties. Only Alliance is committed to protecting our environment and Lough Neagh.

This week marks the beginning of Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. Tackling violence against women and girls is everyone’s responsibility; we have much more to do to eradicate this scourge from our society. My statement on this in the Assembly yesterday 👇🏻

In awe of Nikita Hand; she showed immense strength, resilience and bravery in bringing this case. “I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be, speak up.”

Great to receive an update on the Belfast Region City Deal in Stormont today. North Down is due to receive significant investment which will transform Bangor Waterfront and create an Innovation Hub in Holywood for the film & TV industry and digital technologies.

If we are serious about tackling violence against women and girls, then we need to raise the bar regarding interactions between Ministers and MLAs. Aggressive interaction between men in power and female MLAs is part of a continuum of unacceptable behaviour. It starts with us.
