#fromthearchive -Soviet TASS posters from #WWII. Produced quickly in response to events on the Eastern Front, these posters combined bold design with sharp messaging to inform and mobilize the public. They’re a reminder that wartime history is about how events were communicated and understood.

Did you know that the US Army has an outstanding photography collection? Check out a portrait of a young Omar Bradley; a rare photograph of Hilary R. Johnson, & a portrait of Clarence Muse. But this collection is understudied…nothing about the photographer, studio, or context. Are you curious yet?

During the world wars, the YWCA organized recreation programs, housing, and community support for soldiers training in Army camps and serving overseas. Posters like these show how civilian organizations helped mobilize American society for wartime service—today, that story appears in Army archives.

One of the fascinating things about Army archival collections is that they preserve student papers written by officers decades before they became senior commanders in World War II. Check out this paper by MAJ Dwight Eisenhower on planning and industrial mobilization since the World War.

Army archival collections preserve not only the history of wars but also the history of how the Army studied them. Strategic studies and student papers that analyze past conflicts and debate the challenges of future warfare. These materials form an important part of the intellectual history of PME.
