The bartender passes Octavo the glass, which he quickly pushes towards Skull Kid. "Never understood why everyone around here is obsessed with the stuff," he mutters. At least it's only another minute before the cook brings them their waffles. Nice and hot, with a pitcher of spiced honey to go

"Could I get a drink in the meantime?" Octavo asks the bartender. "We got milk." He makes a face, pursing his lips, then turns to Skull Kid. "...do you want milk, lad?"

"Amazing, is it not? Allow me to procure your waffle for you." He leans on the counter, waving the barkeep over. "Would you kindly prepare us two waffles?" The barkeep gives them a puzzled look, probably unused to seeing nonhumans in his bar, but he nods and calls over to the chef.

(( I looked into this a bit and waffles originated in the 14th century so I think it's quite feasible that they could exist in Hyrule.

"Well, of course. Getting up in others' business is a universal constant."

"Then come with me~ We shall quest for the House of Waffle." (it turns out it's just a tavern that sells waffles...)

Octavo doesn't have a house, but he has a home base, so to speak. He barricades himself inside the Hyrule castle library and lives in there. He just threw a mattress on the floor by the fireplace. However, traveling between points in the timeline is not something he can do freely, so he can't just

"It would be nice to live in such a world. Unfortunately, I must be practical. I travel far too much, anyway. There would be no sense in having a house if it is left empty much of the time."

"It isn't that they don't let me have a house. I don't need permission to have a house! I just don't have one, due to not having the funding or materials or means of assembling one, and even if I did have one it would be burnt to the ground by the ignoble peasantry within a week."

"Interesting. And if she were unable to reach you, say, due to being unconscious, or trapped in some sort of magical crystal... What then?"

"A couple of..." Octavo stares at Thistle a moment, studying his face closely. He does not appear to have aged, especially for someone in a period of what was typically rapid growth... "You don't recall? We met in an underground city? You threatened my life several times?"

"Absolutely not! You should find a deep pit and throw her in immediately. She yearns to return to the dark."

"You seem a bit out of practice..." Octavo sits to listen to the halting way Thistle plucks the strings. "It's nice to see you above ground, by the way."

"Let me guess... The Knight and the Princess again?" Octavo peers over her shoulder at the book. "I've been around a long time, you know. Perhaps I met them in my youth."

Octavo, passing by behind her, mimics the tune, humming it in perfect imitation of her. "That's quite nice... Did you write that one yourself?"

"Pardon me, but is that not the definition of lost?"

"...sometimes I wonder why I bother. I don't even like these people, and they do not like me. Why should I save them?"

"Hmm. I don't believe you, but you don't seem to want to talk about it."

"Well then, what about her?"

"Missing again, is she?"

"Scarier... I can do scary as I am." Octavo places his hands on his chest. "It's more about what you do with your body than anything. You've simply never seen me that way!"
