New from 404 Media: we've seen internal documents that show Microsoft is explicitly planning to "make people addicted" to its new AI assistant 'Scout' which the company just announced. It is a clear goal according to the documents, with addiction being the first phase

The most hostile user experience from Google is when you search YouTube and in the results they show you videos COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the words you typed. WTF. That's like distracting someone so they forget why they went into a room.

New favourite website just dropped. That's the fun way to look at it. The not so fun way to look at is the massive sinkhole of resources that could have gone to curing cancer research, renewable energy implementation etc. and all the other things that the AI CEOs like to claim AI will solve.

Good design and experiences are INTENTIONAL. There is no value-add to switching to 'AI' for a company that has been doing deliveries for nearly 70 years and got it figured out.

Meta is also logging its employees actions on their computers so they can use the behaviors in the data set for an AI. If you still work for a tech company with policies like this, you are digging your own grave.

Your regular reminder that right here in WA (and really several high schools around the nation), students are the victims of 'nudify' apps. But instead of going after the AI industry enabling what is essentially CSAM at scale, decision makers got phones banned.

I never got into Spotify but I did stream on YouTube Music, but I quit that and that means there's hope you can too. Now I just buy mp3s/ogg/flac direct from artists or on Bandcamp and just play it through an mp3 player app. Try VLC.

Not only should the US follow suit and tax the companies, but they should fine then a percentage of their revenue for all their privacy issues. As it stands, fines for companies allowing customer data to leak or for other privacy issues are so insignificant, companies just do whatever they want.

So 75% of the code is *guaranteed* to break and need fixing... on top of code that already breaks lol Tech companies are prioritizing all the wrong metrics. It's like, before gen-AI, thinking more lines of code written means the code is better.

JFC what is there to gain by posting genAI slop of the crowd size? The No Kings Seattle march took about 2 hours from start until the last people arrived at Seattle Center. It was huge. If you could not attend for one reason or another, you are not entitled to use genAI to spread fake images.
