I recently saw somewhere an argument against solar panels because a field of wheat is better than a field of iron. Ok - let’s take it further. A field of wheat can feed people. A field of AI servers kills people. Yet… giant data centers are profitable (for few) so, destroy the planet wins.

Stupid idea? Was thinking about designing a game off the core of backgammon. But what if a mancala mechanism was paired? I have too much other stuff to do, but my brain is playing around with this 🎲✂️ idea. The concept in my head is fascinating.

With a game about reducing plastic in the ocean in the works, plus personal interest, I believe this is a really good resource! Share!

Just bought more foam board, 110 lb cardstock, and a Fiskars corner cutter. Now I have the materials for the next iteration of The Great Patch. Only gets better with each iteration! 🎲✂️ I am stoked to make all the refinements I have planned coming out of the playtests at Unpub.

After a full brain dump, note transcription, and electronic feedback transfer to my game notes file, I have a Next Steps list of 15 tasks to improve The Great Patch. At a glance, it seems overwhelming, but I will prioritize them and know the game will be much better. 🎲✂️

Six tests of The Great Patch at #unpub was a phenomenal way to really find the smooth spots, the sweet spots, and the rough spots. Overall, people love the theme, the cooperative engine building, and the pick up sticks. It is moving swiftly in the right direction and I am stoked to iterate!!

Had a good night’s sleep and am slowly getting going on the first day of Unpub. Quite happy to have the time to charge up - breakfast, coffee - and cut and sleeve cards in a relaxing morning. However, I did not bring a charging block for my phone. I thought all hotel rooms had USB ports now. 🫤

I am bringing 5 prototypes with me to @unpub this year. That said, The Great Patch is my main focus. 1. The Great Patch is a cooperative engine builder (and more) about reducing the amount of plastic in The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Along with other times, it will be Fri 3-5 and Sat 4:30-8:30

Who wants to help me 🎲✂️ a worker placement game about Erik the Red? Would that even work? I think the story of his travel from Norway, temporary exile from Iceland, exploration of Greenland, and founding of the first European settlement in Greenland is a compelling theme, but is it Colonialism?

I am exhausted and feeling a bit burnt out with work, which would normally be crazy since I was on vacation the week before last. But sandwiching that vacay has been long long hours. Worst part - I have done nothing on my Unpub to do list, which I must complete before Wednesday. Sigh.
