🎉 Great news: one of the first Best Start Family Hubs is opening at Patchway Children’s Centre - congrats to the team! Patchway has higher deprivation levels than 81% of England’s neighbourhoods. 📝 That’s why I wrote to the Education Secretary @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social to call for this here.

🦊 Proud our Labour Govt’s building on fox hunting ban with trail hunting ban. Using animal scents can see pets & wild animals chased & killed. There are concerns trail hunts are used by some to fox hunt. The ban must be workable. Please share experience/views consult.defra.gov.uk/defra/trail-...

📰 Great news: Brabazon and our wider community through to next stage for official ‘new town’ status and infrastructure boost. Very pleased that our community’s potential is being seen by our Labour Government. We are now one of only 7 places in the country being considered.

Pleased that the Bill to remove Hereditary Peers has passed. I gave my maiden speech when this first came to the Commons. Inheriting the right (if you're a man) to vote on our laws, clearly has no place in a modern Parliament. A long way to go on reform but this is historic - not least for women.

It may be 11pm, but it is very much worth it. The things we have to fight for, though, are astonishing.

📱Social media access for under-16s was our topic at this month’s ’Coffee with Claire’, at Brabazon’s new Spitfire Hangar with youth work charity, FACE. Residents discussed the complexity of this decision on access, and trade offs of any decision here between safety & freedom. Thanks all who joined!

🇵🇸 Locally, I know we’ve been horrified to see the human suffering in Gaza. It’s right that our Government does all it can to bring children in urgent medical need to the UK for treatment. In Parliament, I called for everything possible to continue to be done to help vulnerable children in Gaza.

🏫 Labour Govt shares draft plans to improve SEND support. Your views will shape these. The broken SEND system lets children down too often. I know this from my family’s experience & local people. I asked the Education Sec how local parents can help further shape this. She’s keen to hear from you.

I fully agree with local people who’ve emailed to say that Labour MPs should keep away from the chaos seen under the Tories and stand by Keir Starmer. After making key changes yesterday, now is the time to crack on. With so much global uncertainty, Keir’s leadership is crucial.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. On behalf of our community, I signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, remembering the six million Jews killed and all impacted. We must never forget the great cruelty inflicted simply for being Jewish. I will always stand against antisemitism.

🌲 Over Christmas, many of us will be looking forward to getting out for a good walk in nature. Yesterday in Parliament, I asked Nature Minister, Mary Creagh, about our Labour Govt’s plans for The Western Forest - the first national forest in 30 years - making this even easier for many in future.
