Great anecdotes and insights on the relationship between Michael Hurley and Peter Stampfel. On the 2015 photo included Stampfel was thinking that Hurley was giving him bunny ears and returned the favor. Michael was actually flipping the bird, but his hand was on the way down when I took the shot.

It’s a shame that Spirit never really became well-known among (younger) music fans. No one seems to care about their musical legacy, even though they created some truly great albums. Their music features beautiful melodies combined with plenty of surprising arrangements.

With an incredibly heavy heart the Hurley family and his close friends are sad to announce that Michael Hurley passed away on April 1st. Despite not feeling well Michael had just completed a brief tour that culminated in two appearances at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN. Very sad times.
