I don't want to bash everyone who is religious. I know religion means a lot to some people and I won't take that freedom away. On the contrary, religious institutions repressiveness against queer rights is still felt broadly as justifications like "think of the kids" have been used historically.

And everyone wonders why religion is a problem. It is a problem in the west as much as the Middle East and some parts of Africa. Seperation of church and state means nothing when those same people want the 10 commandments in classrooms.
