While at Westlands the other week, as fan of folklore and history, I finally took the opportunity to visit the hamlet of Bewcastle (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bewcastle), close to the border between England and Scotland. It’s a tiny, remote place, dripping with history and monuments to the past.

Christmas advert (possibly for M&S) recently filmed on Fore Street, one of my favourite childhood haunts. The street connects Old Hatfield town with St Ethelreda's and Hatfield House & Old Palace at the top. The 8 Bells Pub with its Dickensian links makes it an ideal location.

With the weather set fair, I headed to Haltwhistle to meet up with good pal @caughtjester.bsky.social He lives in Wallsend & being based at Annan this week, it was the ideal spot, being equidistant between the two of us. Fitting, given Haltwhistle's claims to be the geographic centre of Britain.

4th Sept 1957. The good ship Orcades disgorged my dad & his family to begin a new life in Adelaide, AU. Dad ended up working on the Blue Streak project at Woomera, met & married mum when stationed in Cumbria, then back to Oz, had my bro (yep he's an Aussie) & came back here where out popped me! 😀

It's always a bonus when you're able to find a local and reliable babysitter.
