Please share with anyone who cares about NSF support for graduate students and take 30 seconds to sign and leave a comment. The deadline for the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program is about one month away and literally no one can apply.

An important correction in the NYT, to a chart that was shared a lot in recent days & that I shared myself, shows they'd made a mistake with the 18-24 year old turnout, and so it's not the case that age group outvoted all others. Still: nothing to sneeze at here, still a huge surge in youth vote.

Ashley Eng writes to MA, “I would not have gotten my start in science without the passionate community of science teachers I had as a proud BHS and UMass alum.” But now, “Federal funding agencies are terminating grants without reason and our valued federal employees are losing their jobs.” 🧪🏠

Scientists at UC Berkeley have filed a lawsuit against the Trump admin, accusing of politically motivated cuts to funding. “I think that if we fight back and we show that our laws still work, it means something to people,” says Sabeeha Merchant, Berkeley professor.

Bezos plans to sell ~$4.8 billion of Amazon stock. That's only 2.5% of his holdings in the company. That sale roughly equals the proposed ~50% cut to NSF. IOW, with modest endowment-level growth of Amazon, Bezos could fund the entire NSF shortfall into perpetuity.
