I made this in #blender in about 3 minutes. I could probably find a way to generate an infinite number of flower pots procedurally in a couple hours as well, if the game called for such a thing.

The Starfox remake is about what I expected. Gameplay feels great, the added cutscenes are charming, some dialogue additions are fun. The credits sequence, though, was a huge disappointment. The music was great, but...it was meant for the original credits scene, not over a static flying scene.

I'm reminded more and more of the "It's impossible to be 100% moral" arc in The Good Place. No matter how you live your life, what you consume, what game engine you use...there's always an ethical argument to be made against it. Best we can do is draw lines in the sand and reevaluate occasionally.

I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.

Considering a "you play as a pair of extraterrestrial rovers" angle now. More grounded, less silly, but the movement and puzzle based gameplay remains. It loses the charm of playing as a rolling hamster ball, though. But making this the new vibe just feels easier to...explain. #gamedev #indiedev

Made it possible to pick up objects, which should allow for some interesting puzzle-solving! I'm also leaning away from the shooting mechanic. It just necessitates so many other gameplay elements and I also want the focus to be on platforming and puzzles. #gamedev #godot #indiedev

I try not to polish too much at the start of projects, but I think sound just makes such a huge difference so I had to. Lots of lerping volume levels, making good use of AudioStream3D nodes, and even lerping pitch for the drone flying sound based on speed! #godot #gamedev #indiedev

I made a sand worm. It's just a bunch of PathFollow3D nodes with their progress offset and the model for each segment is basically a capsule. I did attempt a more complicated approach with a fully-rigged model, but I ran into issues getting the bones to rotate right. #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Latest pivot on the #gamedev project (I'm admitting I've moved on for now). You're a hamster stranded on Mars (or maybe on an alien planet for more variety, I'm not sure yet) and you have to roll around and find a way home with your drone buddy (which you also control and shoots lasers).

Money should follow integer overflow rules and the maximum should be like, one billion. Don't want to suddenly have negative money? Give it away.

In true programmer fashion, I have discovered this can be avoided! I just had to set my Word Wrap mode to boundary. No more scrolling left whenever I re-open Godot 👏

I cloned the #godot source code and tried to fix a thing where it doesn't properly keep the script editor's horizontal scroll position. I was able to fix it...but not in a way that is a proper fix. Might come back to again later, but at the very least I'm now set up for an eventual contribution.

Why does every Nintendo Direct sound like this?

More prototyping and writing messy code. Might make it so your jump is deliberately crappy to reign in the movement difficulty a bit, but also needed a way to move vertically and came up with a hover that has a cooldown.

This is always my concern with remakes. My heart VASTLY prefers a new game, but if they're gonna remake something it should feel less than 50% like the original in terms of content IMO. Give us a totally alternate universe version of OoT that happens to look pretty.

I'm doing it again...I'm dreaming up a different 3D platformer idea and letting myself entertain the idea of starting another project. The thing is...it's already got more of a solid foundation than the last one (mechanics and story-wise).

I've been saying for a while now that I think Nintendo should use a new IP to fill the old Zelda void (non-BOTW/TOTK), and I just kinda realized what would be perfect: Star Fox Adventures. That game basically WAS a Zelda-like. It's probably not gonna happen, but that's my wish. Give us a sequel!

I think part of my problem with gamedev is this notion that whatever I make has to be mean something to me. Critter Drifters was basically fueled entirely by nostalgia, for example. Also, kart racers are relatively straightforward and feel like a game immediately after you have drivable vehicles

Didn't like the the laser tag area of my game, so I'm starting it again using a modular approach. The fact it's still not fully playable has been weighing on me, so I'm going to focus on actually finishing this little FPS minigame. Then I'll probably feel better about the project as a whole.

Feels good to just have a library of props I can place in Godot now. I'm doing my classic thing of waffling back and forth on the validity of my project...but at least the knowledge gain I receive from diving into it is paying off pretty well.

It has happened...I finally decided to try writing a custom import script in #godot I didn't even know you could do stuff like this until watching @walaber.com 's streams. Makes you wonder what other goodies are possible in this wonderful engine that are just less commonly used.

Trying to make full games has slowly been teaching me the value of temporarily disconnecting from creative projects. Going from saying "I'm not feeling this, I give up" to "I'm not feeling this right now, I'm taking a break until I do" makes all the difference in the world.
