It’s sobering that comedians like John Stewart, Steven Colbert and John Oliver are revealing truth and traditional news outlets are biased, entertainment outlets to distract Americans. Independent journalists, foreign news and comedians are the only trustworthy sources available to many Americans.

A poignant reminder about fear and power…

We truly have a moral obligation to protect the vulnerable and hold the powerful accountable. Is time to hold the false profits responsible for the hurt they’ve caused to the weakest among us. Our humanity must be the guide that drives us towards ensuring compassion and humane treatment for all.

She was a brilliant, inspiring, and brave trailblazer. Her legacy of advocacy for primates, women, the environment coupled with a deep compassion towards others, will be embraced for generations to come.

I hope and pray my children and grandchildren are “leftists.” Compassion, kindness, empathy and faith in science, are values that exemplify our shared humanity.

We should care deeply. Things should have changed with the Sandy Hook School killings. There have been 574 shootings since 2000. Our country is shameful. We must have common sense gun laws.

There’s definitely something wrong with this system when oligarchs and corporate executives grift the public into believing that they deserve astronomical raises and bonuses while public servants struggle to make ends meet. Being a teacher for 39 years, I live this sad reality.
