This one came from the Gnome newsletter from Weird Walk, which I recommend.

I don't actually recommend using Windows if you can avoid it. But if there's an app that you need that absolutely, positively has to run on Windows, you might want to use it without the nagware. $9 ain't bad.

I did get Windows running on my M2 mac using UTM. It was pretty easy! I had used VirtualBox before which was always a bit wonky. Apparently you can get a slightly better tuned experience with a Parallels subscription. For my use, tho, UTM worked gā¦

It's so tragic that Our Lady Peace made 4 perfect albums and then tragically died in a plane that tragically crashed into a train that hit a tragic iceberg and didn't survive to make 6 more almost unlistenable records.

Similarly for Richard Dawkins. "The Ancestor's Tale" remains a must-read science book in my opinion. Just don't look up anything he said after that.

Kurzweil ultimately ended up being a bit of a weirdo. Probably inevitable for a guy that got famous making predictions about tech and then being praised or criticized in public constantly for it. I still like that book, though. Maybe because it was really weird.

When that album came out I was 17. I liked the music and immediately went to the library and checked out Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil. It was prescient. There are still passages in that book that are spookily on target, while others mā¦

Thereās a great moment on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bandās Will The Circle Be Unbroken Vol. 2 in the intro to John Denverās āAnd So It Goesā where someone in the band asks, āIs this practice?ā and Denver replies, āTheyāre all practice.ā

"Andy what are you doing with all your free time?" a friend asks, as I just finish submitting another job application, which took me 3 hours to prepare, one of several I need to get done today.

This has been sitting in an open tab for a while, I haven't finished reading it all, but it's got a lovely design. Modern but fast, welcomes the reader. Feels fresh in a world of sites ostensibly built for reading that treat the user like a hostage. Lovely.

The thing about looking for a new job is that you constantly want to rewrite your resume, right? Also, having been a "software engineer" for a decade, I wore so many hats. It's hard to know which hats to pull down off the hook and talk about, or which hats I would like to wear more going forward.

I honestly love that young people still thinking smoking makes them look cool, it's absolutely a thing that every generation for the last 100 years can relate to. Later we relate on the "good lord we were so dumb" part.

That was actually... way easier than I thought. Not that I recommend Windows for anything, but there remain some enterprise software that are Windows-only and I wanted to be ready. This was a breeze:

I will add one caveat: I stopped using Spotify because their moral liabilities started stacking a little too high. If we only did business with folks/companies that we are in complete moral alignment with, we would starve and freeze. Everyone maintains their own line and that's fine.

The original is a heavy-handed fable of course. And it's only, what, 50 pages? So a 90 minute feature would need some fleshing out.
