🌞 During the Triassic period, 230 million years ago, Charnwood Forest lay near the equator, and was a hot, desert-like environment. 🔴 The red sandstones and siltstones deposited during this time are associated with those deserts, as well as seasonal flash flood events.

🔎 In 2017 a research team led by Charlotte Kenchington published several new fossils discovered in the rocks of Charnwood Forest. 📄 The study included three new species of the 560 million year old fossil Primocandelabrum, which lived at the bottom of a deep ocean.
